Cliff Doerksen Chicago Reader It's such a fine line between clever and stupid, and this Spinal Tap-caliber cult item maintains a perfect balance. Feb 2, 2010 Full Review Marjorie Baumgarten Austin Chronicle Not even the always reliable talents of McKean and Lynch can help pull this comedy out of its ironic slump. Rated: 1.5/5 Oct 23, 2009 Full Review Michael Ordoña Los Angeles Times Gold places his fond comedy in the '80s with all the cinematic skill of early MTV. Oct 16, 2009 Full Review Chase Whale ChaseWhale.com Writer-director-star Ari Gold understands the diversity of humor and does a superb job balancing the absurd with the laugh out loud funny. He just gets it. Feb 22, 2015 Full Review Sean P. Means Salt Lake Tribune Gold attempts to show Power as a "Napoleon Dynamite"-like charmer, but Gold's spastic performance induces more cringes than smiles. Rated: 1/4 Oct 22, 2009 Full Review Jeff Vice Deseret News (Salt Lake City) The film's penchant for dorky nostalgia -- especially '70s and '80s-era music -- quickly becomes irritating. It deserves a real tongue-lashing for trying to re-introduce the inexplicable Mr. Mister hit "Kyrie" into the American consciousness. Oct 22, 2009 Full Review Read all reviews

Andrew H Loved the passion, innocence and joy of a great, offbeat story, well told. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review Audience Member Just the premise of this movie makes me chuckle inside whenever I think about it. I thought it was just absurd enough to be a good comedy. Certainly not everyone's cup of tea but so ridiculous it's funny. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is pure gold Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Vladimir N This gem of a movie completely justifies what me and a lot of people of my lost generation are! I adore every second of it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/31/20 Full Review Audience Member My wife and I found this comedy to be very silly, but very endearing. I was initially interested to see it because I'm a Rush fan, but I enjoyed the jokes (even the silly ones) and I really appreciated the backdrop of the New Mexico miners' strike. Several member reviews felt that having the strike as a backdrop to the plot didn't serve either the comedy aspect of the film or the "serious" aspect, but I actually feel that it was effective.(Coincidentally, my wife had recently rented "Salt of the Earth," and - perhaps significantly - neither of us were able to sit through it.) The relationship between the hero and the deaf heroine is actually pretty moving, as well as the fact that the hero, although laughable to many, finds friends among underdogs, everywhere he goes. This is a fun, silly film that entertains and, if you're willing to let the film work on you, offers messages about empowering yourself and fighting with whatever tools you have (which, by the way, is the theme of many Rush songs). Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved this movie! Definitely very goofy, but a very heartwarming story about a man who stands up for himself and his town and shows people what you can do when you believe in yourself.
