Critics Consensus

A twisted memory play whose labyrinthine structure can be as disorienting for the audience as it is for its heroine, Affection's most lasting impression may be Jessica Rothe's terrific lead performance.

This nifty little movie keeps you guessing and when it eventually shows its hand, there’s still plenty of mileage left in the characters. Go to Full Review

The lensing and production design are similarly generic, save for a handful of inspired shots that, again, provide glimmers of a clearer vision than the unevenly applied one we ultimately get here. Go to Full Review

Affection is trying to be a lot of interlocking genre pieces at once, and to the filmmaker’s credit, they’re able to pull all of it together, even if just barely. Go to Full Review

It's a heartbreaking situation, well-acted by Rothe, but it doesn't leave the narrative much room to manoeuvre. Go to Full Review

For a 90-minute film, Affection crawls, squandering the many opportunities to sidestep its messaging and deliver solid scares and thrills. The premise was there, but too many misfires stop this film from hitting the mark. Go to Full Review

Meza proves adept at creating suspense and unease, but Affection is eventually betrayed by its own internal logic that at times seems inconsistent and difficult to follow. Go to Full Review

JDub May 8 I liked that it told a good story without hitting hard on the gore. The opening setup definitely kept you guessing. We had questions after the movie was over because it didn't try to explain everything which was great. The end was satisfying. Good story and the scenes looked great. Worth seeing! I think it is an easy one to rewatch which I rarely feel with movies these days. See more Andrei D @RT74856639 Jul 1 It has the inkling of an idea and Rothe does good to great work but the rest of the cast isn't as good and the narrative is limited See more Peter F @Pfit1990 Jun 29 Outlandish story, but I appreciate them trying to do something a little different. Overall, pretty interesting and well-done. The ending kind of lags. 7.5 stars. See more Aaron M. @RT42059255 Jun 27 It probably won’t be your favorite movie in the world but it is still a solid film. If you like horror and/or thriller then it’s perfect for you. If you have a chance to go in blind and NOT watch the trailer like I did then you’ll like it even more. See more Todd T. @toddat Jun 20 Not worth the time. Trite, been there done that story. See more Les N @Vegas628 Jun 12 I'm sure it has it's good points. See more Read all reviews
