Peter Keough Boston Globe It's a lot of skill and talent expended on a spat a good lawyer could probably have sorted out during the opening credit sequence. Instead Lafosse offers a lot of the "after," and none of the "love." Rated: 2/4 Sep 14, 2017 Full Review Scott Marks San Diego Reader For most of its running time, director and co-writer Joachim Lafosse gives the impression that he's drilled a hole into the side of a married couple's home in order to afford audiences an unmediated, worm's eye view of their gradual dissolution. Rated: 3/5 Sep 1, 2017 Full Review Sheri Linden Los Angeles Times Messy and ungovernable at its strongest, Lafosse's film is a story of heartbreak and real estate and, not least, money, viewed from within the still-smoldering ruins. Aug 31, 2017 Full Review Leigh Monson Substream Magazine After Love is a film of harsh truths and humanistic empathy, finding a middle ground between love turned to hate and tolerance so that one may more fully love one's children. Rated: 4/5 Oct 2, 2020 Full Review Steven Prokopy Third Coast Review Bejo and Kahn are so good at illustrating shades of cruelty and kindness in their performances that it's near impossible not to feel the tension and volatility of the situation. May 13, 2020 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed After Love is a very realistic, touching, and at times poignant even view on a couple's separation, divorce, and division of assets. Claudio C L'économie du couple / After Love (2016) The End of a Relationship (12,101 – 01 Dec 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) After several years of marriage, Marie Barrault (Bérénice Bejo) and Boris Marker (Cédric Kahn) are separated but living under the same roof. They have two daughters, Jade Marker (Jade Soentjens) and Margaux Marker (Margaux Soentjens), but cannot afford to buy an apartment for Boris. They belong to different social classes and Marie says that she supported Boris throughout their life together. But Boris claims that he renovated their house, reason why it is valuable. Marie’s mother Christine (Marthe Keller) likes Boris, but her daughter loathes him despite the advice of her mother that after the desire, friendship should keep the marriage. "L'économie du couple", a.k.a. "After Love" (2016), is a Belgian French drama by Joachim Lafosse about the end of a relationship, The house the couple lives is the pivot of the discussion, since Marie does not want to share the value with Boris. The daughters are the only link that remains loved in the family, and the discussions between their parents are witnessed by them several times. My vote is seven. Title (Brazil): "A Economia do Amor" ("The Economy of Love") My Blog: https://maniacosporfilme.wordpress.com/ Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/01/25 Full Review Audience Member This portrait of a gradual break-up is grinding yet human. The director arouses great sympathy in us for mum, dad and the twin girls, and the actors play their parts so perfectly such that you resist siding with one against the other. You feel for both man and woman, and wring your hands at the impending, slow demise of their relationship, and the inevitable impact it will have on their delightful girls. One of the realest and least Hollywood movies I've seen in fair while. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Mummy and Daddy hate each other. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Felt very real. The happy moments and the sadness. Even amicable break ups have these moments. :) Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Difficult and honest look to an end of a relationship. It is hard going but with enough ups and down to be rewarding. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Read all reviews
