Kerry Lengel Arizona Republic It is the mythic resonance of her story that makes it a worthy subject a documentary. But it is the down-to-earth human touches that make "Afternoon of a Faun: Tanaquil Le Clercq" worth watching. Rated: 3.5/5 May 29, 2014 Full Review Peter Keough Boston Globe "Afternoon of a Faun: Tanaquil Le Clercq" presents enough teasing glimpses into the dancer's personal and inner life to demand a fuller picture. Rated: 3/4 May 15, 2014 Full Review Ben Sachs Chicago Reader This 2013 profile of famed ballerina Tanaquil Le Clercq divides its running time between biographical information and synopses of creative achievements, but it doesn't aspire to anything more than the sum of its parts. May 8, 2014 Full Review Bernard Boo Way Too Indie Afternoon of a Faun celebrates Tanny's unique physical gifts and profiles her phenomenal career in-depth, it more importantly gives the feeling that we know her. Rated: 8.5/10 Apr 3, 2019 Full Review Eleanor Ringel Cater Saporta Report (Atlanta) The film exists as both a chronicle of her astonishing talent and her formidable spirit. Jul 7, 2017 Full Review Tim Brayton Antagony & Ecstasy The film would be valuable for collecting this footage... even if its lapses as documentary cinema and storytelling device were far more serious than they are. jake s Poilo was some scary stuff. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a beautiful film on many levels - the Debussy "Afternoon of a Faun" theme music that keeps floating through, all the wonderful telling of the story by friends and dancers that loved Tanaquil Le Clercq, and the really haunting images that span the extremes from ballet practice, to polio wards. This is the story of a fascinating person done beautifully by a director that "gets" it beyond belief.
