If Kathleen Tynan and the makers of "Agatha" had worked in that spirit -- had given us a droll and macabre black comedy -- the movie might have worked. They do not, and so it does not. Go to Full Review

Blu B Sep 4 I wasn't even aware this was an actual event that is famous in writing circles. But to think someone would think this is what happened? How odd. Editing and pacing is ok and everything else is half decent. There are some Kubrick like shots in this that look amazing. But than there are scenes that just meander and are boring or aren't clear how they lead to the next. Tons of production value and the setting is memorable. This is a romance meldorama type of deal. The direction is amazing at times and other times just disappears. It's 60% about Redgrave and 40% Hoffman and it can feel like it's two seperate stories. Reminds me a bit of Fedora in a sense of trying to uncover the truth behind a mysterious figure. It just feels very slow, meandering, and isn't clear at times what the point of this stuff is. She is clearly unstable and has a unhappy marriage but it feels like her relationship with Hoffman doesn't really have any effect on her changing her actions or really any character development. Sure he intervenes and loves her but it just feels like it's not clear how we come to that as the acting is very wooden and emotionless at times. Other times it's pretty good but the two together just don't have much chemistry at all. Better romanctic chemistry, clearer character arcs and much clearer flow of events is what is needed for this to be good. Unforunately that isn't here. Skip it. This movie contains one of the most romantic kissing scenes I've seen recently, I also like the cinematography, the period costumes, and the beautiful music score. Why do I always associate director Michael Apted with his long-running "Seven Up" documentary series? He's done quite several fictional narrative films, too. I have rewatched every episode at least twice—and they even name dropped Mephisto!!! The practical effects for the show are a huge reason why it is incredible—knowing that the witch’s road and the effects are all practical and not cgi makes me respect the artistry that went into this show. Here’s hoping for a Wiccan/Nicholas Scratch reveal as well as a Wanda/Scarlet Witch cameo. If Mephisto is introduced after being mentioned, I will pass away. Thank you Marvel for having such a great cast and putting them together for something witchy for Halloween! See more 09/26/2024 Pretty boring to watch... Hoping it gets better (on episode 3) but it's kinda disheartening when watching a show is more of a chore than an enjoyable time... I'll give it the good ol college try and finish the season but (SO FAR) it definitely isn't worth the high praise it's received so far. Will update my rating if the show gets better.
