Matthew D It's so boring and convoluted that even Peter Ustinov and Tony Curtis cannot save it. Director Gary Nelson's television murder mystery Murder in Three Acts (1986) makes no sense, it's impossible to follow, there's hardly any motivation, all the characters are dull, and it's poorly shot. Writer Scott Swanton adds awful jokes and muddles Agatha Christie's story into an incomprehensible mess. I cannot believe anyone could watch Murder in Three Acts and understand what is happening or why. Neil Roach's cinematography barely captures the waters and beaches of this island. It's so dull with ugly apartments and homes with hideous vacation outfits for everyone. Peter Ustinov is hilarious as the grumpy old Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. His complaints and sarcastic wit is always pleasant. Ustinov is charming like Tony Curis' daring actor Charles Cartwright. Curtis is welcoming and fun, so that you are actually captivated by his acting. He's quite funny here too. Emma Samms is beautiful, but overacting so hard. Everyone else is indistinguishable. In short, skip Murder in Three Acts. It does not even make sense once Poirot explains the mystery. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Not so good. Even the great Ustinov seems to be phoning it in. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member 3 Stars ONLY and ONLY for Tony Curtis!!! :) Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member What a dreadful film, the only reasoon I watched this film is because I am on an epic journey to re-watch all of my old video's and rate them. Once complete I will dump them. This was the first. Can't imagine I was even the one who taped it in the first place as it's really not my cup of tea. Terrible, wasn't sorry that it stopped before the film was over! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Where Poirot is so sharp, he can outwit a crazy man! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member An acceptable television cash in on the Ustinov movie Poirot's, at least they kept to the obligatory exotic location.
