When an in-flight collision incapacitates the pilots of an airplane bound for Los Angeles, stewardess Nancy Pryor (Karen Black) is forced to take over the controls. From the ground, her boyfriend Alan Murdock (Charlton Heston), a retired test pilot, tries to talk her through piloting and landing the 747 aircraft. Worse yet, the anxious passengers -- among which are a noisy nun (Helen Reddy) and a cranky man (Sid Caesar) -- are aggravating the already tense atmosphere.

Pauline Kael The New Yorker Airport 1975 is processed schlock and it's really beneath the level at which movie criticism might serve a function; one might almost think it had been conceived as a campy joke. Sep 21, 2023 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Airport 1975 is good, exciting, corny escapism and the kind of movie you would not want to watch as an in-flight film. Rated: 2.5/4 Oct 23, 2004 Full Review Steve Warren The Barb (Atlanta) There are so many stars in the cast that there's no time for character development, but they're effectively sketched with broad stroked. May 5, 2023 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...a solid entry within the disaster-movie canon that is, predominantly speaking, more hit than miss. Rated: 3/4 Jan 19, 2023 Full Review Jason Shawhan Nashville Scene So 1974's Airport 1975 is exactly the kind of camp riot you would want if you wanted to scientifically explore how '70s one could get in less than two hours. Sep 8, 2021 Full Review Jacoba Atlas Los Angeles Free Press There's nothing wrong with good old-fashioned disaster thrillers. Unfortunately, [Airport 1975] doesn't deliver. Dean W A good disaster movie with hammy acting and great practical effects Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review George B I can't believe 1 1/2 stars! Audience score 30 percent! What?? This is classic Hollywood kitch perfection! "They don't make them like they used to" is an UNDERSTATEMENT. This movie is brilliant start to finish. Fun. Silly. The BEST. They can't make movies like this in Hollywood anymore. Worth a watch if you like kitch/midnight maddness like movies. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/16/24 Full Review D M The movie is best viewed only on a full stomach. Mushrooms. Lots of shrooms. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/20/23 Full Review Audience Member A lost masterpiece and the film that inspired a remake in the form of Airplane (many of whose scenes and characters are directly lifted from this film). As with other Airport movies, a veritable who's who from cinema history, including the likes of Gloria Swanson, Jerry Stiller, a perpetually "god damn it!" angry George Kennedy (aka Naked Gun) and Sid Caesar. And who's that young girl on her way to get life saving dialysis? Why none other than Linda Blair (of Exorcist fame), recovering from a recent bout of severe demonic possession. With chipper guitar playing nun at hand to keep her spirits up (no inappropriate language or sucking obscenities in hell here thank you very much) The 747 has collided with another plane and pilots been sucked out of the cockpit. Is he ok? We never find out, all we know is he never seen flying a plane again in any of the subsequent sequels (make of that what you will). Stewardess Nancy Pryor is now at the helm. can she save the day and bring in this 150 ton baby? No, obviously she cant - her experience for landing severely damaged 747's is limited to serving drinks and miming how to inflate a life jacket and blow a whistle. The serious job of landing this "Mother" needs a Charlton "get him the hell out of here!" Heston like hero. As luck would have it, stewardess Nancy Pryor's boyfriend happens to be ace pilot hero Charlton "Damn the brakes are failing! This mother's got 10 backup systems!" Heston. Admittedly, this isn't quite as thrilling as Airport 77's under sea 747 caper, but still a classic "it's so bad it's good" 70's disaster movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Alan G Actually its way better than the reviews - or maybe I am just nostalgic. The main actors do their best with a poor script. Corny stuff in among the passengers. Karen Black is really good. Maybe it was a bit unbelievable back in the 70's. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/07/22 Full Review Audience Member The best thrilling movie ever made! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
