Thor Heyerdahl, filmmaker and noted Norwegian ethnographer, travels this time to Easter Island, located in Polynesia. Together with his crew of archaeologists, he explores the local culture. His footage focuses on local statues on the island known as "moai" -- large stone structures carved into the shape of humans. Heyerdahl excavates one of these statues to support a theory that the islanders' sculpting abilities originate from Peru. Footage of the moving of the statues is included.
