Jeffrey M. Anderson Common Sense Media ALABAMA MOON is big-hearted and sweet and likable, but it also feels rushed and truncated, as well as uneven in tone. Rated: 2/5 Jun 3, 2011 Full Review Mike Scott Times-Picayune At every step, director Tim McCanlies grinds the gears in his earnest, but ultimately clunky, adaptation. Rated: 2/4 May 13, 2011 Full Review Avi Offer NYC Movie Guru Big-hearted, inspirational and forgivably contrived with just the right amount of poignancy, excitement and comic relief to keep older and younger audiences captivated. Ron T This was an enjoyable waste of time, but many aspects of the movie were very far fetched. The home for children was like a juvenile version of Cool Hand Luke. The dumbest part of the movie was he makes a small fire in a field, then just walks away. You can see the fire burning in the background as he walks away without dousing the fire. You won’t survive in the woods long if you set them on fire Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/16/25 Full Review Matthew S Having just read the book and falling in love with it for making this old guy cry, I saw there was a film and watched it. Quite the disappointment. The movie carries none of the real atmosphere of the book, the actual struggles and dangers of living in the wilderness and how amazing it is for a 10 year old to be able to survive with nothing in the Alabama wilderness. It looks like everything was filmed in a tame provincial park. The lead actor I'm sure is fine in general but the fact that he can't do a hick Alabama accent is honestly a huge deal, because without it the class conflict just isn't believable, and this makes the relationships have no depth. All in all it comes off like a made for TV Disney movie of the 90s, over a decade after. There was a soul in the book, and it's always sad when you see a movie of such a book that has completely lost the soul. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/30/24 Full Review Audience Member Whoever gave this film a 69 is an idiot. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/26/19 Full Review roger g A coming of age story of Moon brought up by his dad in the wilderness until his dad's death. Then the kid must learn about the real world around him the hard way. A little predictable and corny but, OK to watch. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A nice enjoyable film and story Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Underrated family, adventure drama. Story well directed with a great cast, a very enjoyable movie from beginning to end. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
