"Alex Strangelove" is witty, compassionate and enjoyable throughout; a charming movie and in many respects an enlightened one. Go to Full Review

Alex Strangelove ultimately serves as a funny-and occasionally filthy-commentary on heteronormativity and the work that goes into overcoming certain ingrained expectations about the trajectory of a life. Go to Full Review

As a modern coming-of-age movie, one that's especially meant to keep the progressive values of teen Netflix on the home page for another week or so, it does have a fair amount of charm. Go to Full Review

As Netflix Sunday afternoon sofa-coma fluff goes, this is like a nice glass of cool lemonade; the problem is, Love, Simon is more like a strawberry daiquiri, decorated with an umbrella AND a sparkler. Go to Full Review

I pined for more scenes of Alex and Elliott's chemistry, which to the credit of [Daniel] Doheny and [Antonio] Marziale, is palpable. I wish we got more of that movie. Go to Full Review

A touching film that hits familiar John Hughes-esque territory, but delivers a raunchy, comedic and heartwarming story of self-discovery. Go to Full Review

Drew B Jan 7 A very good movie. "Love Simon" does it better but theres one particular scene in this movie between him & his best friend when he comes out. I can never forget that scene because its so true to life. Solid movie. See more Max H 10/11/2024 It was your typical highschool movie ofc so that's already a low score but also annoyed me that the main character reminded me too much of myself otherwise it was cool. See more Wiktor R 03/14/2024 What have I just watched? See more Jeff M 02/11/2024 Director Craig Johnson made THE SKELETON TWINS, one of my personal top 100 movies ever, so when I found out he directed this film, I made it a priority to check this out. And while it's certainly not in the league of his earlier effort, this is still a very enjoyable and appealing movie - if you liked LOVE, SIMON a couple years back, you are bound to find much to enjoy here. That being said, I found the film's tone a bit schizophrenic - going from a gross-out teenage sex comedy in one scene to an insightful and moving drama in the next. The three actors comprising the love triangle are all superb, particularly Weinstein, who absolutely shines in the end moments of this film and sells what could have been a mawkish and overly sentimental finale. See more Alec B 01/05/2024 Even if the beats are predictable it feels honest, like Johnson is pulling from his own memories. It's also funny which is a bit of a relief. See more Javier R 08/02/2023 This movie is probably one of the worst queer movies I've ever seen. It's filled with unrealistic acting, sure it's alright but I swear as a teenager none of these teens actually act like teens. This was definitely directed by a straight millennial. The way they portray gay love and sex and everything is so poor. And the way they mock other identities and the main characters are subtly homophobic and transphobic just sucks, its so transparent the opinion these people have on gender identity and labels. I'm a gay teenager and this honestly just sucks so bad. Maybe if you're straight and just wanna watch something gay go ahead but not this film, because it will definitely portray our community badly and give you the wrong idea. If you're queer and wanna watch a good, emotional, heartfelt movie that shows a beautiful growth and deep relationship this is definitely not it. This whole movie is just a gay guy in denial but not even in a good moving or emotional way, just in a corny, cringey and bad represented way. Like I can't even describe how much I hated this film. It barely even showed the two "love interests" in this movie and it was mostly just about him and his girlfriend that he wasn't even in love with. They could've easily made him bi, but they had to make him gay aswell? I get it's possible that gay guys think they like girls and end up not but his love for Claire seemed genuine except for the fact he couldn't have sex with her. Anyways if you think about watching this movie, please don't waste your time. See more Read all reviews
