Itsy Levan is devastated by her parents' decision to leave the city and buy a fixer upper in the middle of nowhere. Her life seems over until she meets her space-obsessed neighbor Calvin Kipler. Calvin has spent most of his life awaiting the next arrival of Jesper's Comet--partly because of his obsession with Astronomy, but mostly because the last time it came, ALIENS ABDUCTED HIS PARENTS! This year he is going to be ready for its return so he can finally get them back. Itsy sees this as a chance to help her get into a NYC journalism program and decides to help him, however crazy his plan seems. They end up discovering much more than what is on the other end of the comet's tail.

While Jacob Buster is charming in the role, the film hardly builds up enough goodwill to look past the humungous plot holes and lazy storytelling, no matter how much 80s science family film nostalgia Jake Van Wagoner tries to distract his audience with.

This is a teenage and up movie. It’s so sad in places that I would not call this a comedy. It’s a good movie though for older kids and parents.

I thought there would be potential in this, but there are so many holes in the story. Wouldn't every other kid know the story of the main lead? Why isn't he all over his mother and screaming to find out what happened? But then, the ending is so stupid. Why 'abduct' only the Dad? Why do the aliens appear 10 years later and say g'day? It's so stupid. Really, I'd forget it.
