dustin d All About the Money is a fairly conventional comedy with a fun plot and juvenile humor that actually delivers a lot of laughs. Some of the racial and gay jokes feel more 2003 than 2017. Eddie Griffin's delivery makes his lines stronger than they were on paper, and writer/director/star Blake Freeman's script finds humor in the absurd, which were the most enjoyable elements of the film. The few problems I had with the film were Freeman's delivery of his own jokes. He is playing something of a Ryan Reynolds wannabe, a little too self-aware for his "dumb" character. For example, Griffin delivers a line to their friend that goes something like, "You need to grow a pair a pair of nuts so squirrels can climb that tree and eat them." And Freeman responds along the lines of, "I'm not sure if that makes sense, but you should listen to him." A funnier line would have simply been, "You should listen to him," and let us laugh at the absurdity rather than undercut it with a nudge to the audience. There are several lines like that, all from Freeman. This might have been better if he had taken one less job in the writer/director/star triple role and let a more seasoned person rein him in. He was wise to give Griffin top billing. Still, it was a good comedy helmed by a youngish talent who has yet to be deemed worthy of his own Wikipedia page. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member the opening scene feels like the movie is trying to be fairy tale. but it's not. then we flashback to childhood - and flashforward to modern day... and I'm wondering how has gotten such a high RT score??? A lot of these reviews were written by people who gave this 5 Stars three years ago, a one sentence review and evidently, have never seen another movie since. Seem like RT was spammed. there wasn't one laugh in the first fifteen minutes... the characters were broadly drawn and over the top... I didn't care for any of them. Eddie Griffin is totally wasted here -- save yourself a lot of time-- check out Undercover Brother. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Literally the worst movie of all time. 98% positive audience reviews impossible except by some form of fakery. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member How the hell does this have a 96% positive when most of the reviews are negative? Have some integrity rotten tomatoes!
