I would be a stretch to call this movie a horror film or thriller or comedy. It is a mystery more than anything else. It seems all the central character's (Pete's) "friends" are "gaslighting" him: performing a joke so elaborate, that he begins to question his own sanity. They seem like the obnoxious types to do this. The mystery to me was: why was he even friends with them in the first place ( 10 years earlier at university)? He is a nice guy but they are all so cruel. Maybe, he has changed but why are they all still the same? Also, who is the older, local guy they invited to join their reunion/birthday party? The whole story takes place from Pete's POV and there is A LOT of commentary about the British social class system- about people not fitting in.

I couldn't connect with the main character because why stay at the party? His friends were being a**holes the entire time. Then at the end, the explanation for everything was really lazy. Like how did Claire find out he was gonna propose? Apparently she just guessed it. This is like a bad version of the show "The Curse."

Incredible movie. Don't watch this if you hate anxiety, because it is incredible in the way it induces it. The pacing, suspense, dialogue, everything was perfect. I this is the most horror non-horror movie there. Go into it blind, do not read or watch any trailer or synopsis.

What the film does is it walks this tightrope between being on the one hand funny and on the other hand creepy and unsettling and slightly horrifying and it's a very difficult balancing act... All My Friends Hate Me manages to keep that balance.
