In one of the world's most populated cities, cows, rats, monkeys, frogs, and hogs jostle cheek-by-jowl with people. Here, two brothers fall in love with a bird -- the black kite. From their makeshift bird hospital in their tiny basement, the "kite brothers" care for thousands of these mesmeric creatures that drop daily from New Delhi's smog-choked skies. As environmental toxicity and civil unrest escalate, the relationship between this Muslim family and the neglected kite forms a poetic chronicle of the city's collapsing ecology and rising social tensions.

Marjorie Baumgarten Austin Chronicle All That Breathes instills admiration and wonder while also subtly implicating human beings in a responsibility for the upkeep and furtherance of life. Rated: 4/5 Mar 30, 2023 Full Review Maxwell Rabb Chicago Reader All That Breathes presents a poetic, intensely beautiful story so precise that, at times, it feels staged but instead emerges from hours of painstaking care. Feb 17, 2023 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News It soars as high as the birds it depicts, while telling a compassionate story of two Muslim brothers trying to do their part in making the world a better place. It’s astonishing. amy b Profound tribute to wildlife protectors and the birds they help. A perfect antidote to the obscenity that is the $325 million of Anant Ambhani in India with all the worst people in the world in attendance. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/13/24 Full Review dave d An interesting story that isn't told with the heft it cold have been. Why should we care about these people or the birds? If that could have been fleshed out a tad more this would have been great instead of just ok. A nice doc from India that got a major boost from the producers in awards season. Overall frustrating and a little too up its own a$$. The visuals help the documentary, but they don't make one. Final Score: 6/10 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/09/24 Full Review Sarah P stunningly breathtaking, the simplicity of care made me equally sad and hopeful Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/18/24 Full Review Zach A Sensational filmmaking Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/02/23 Full Review Johnson F Exquisitely lensed and pleasingly scored, this Oscar nominated documentary illuminating the laborious efforts of two brothers and their friend rescuing pollution-choked kites in Delhi is also gracefully paced for much contemplation on the beauty of nature around us and its quick dissolution. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/27/23 Full Review Julie R It took me a minute to get into this one, but it was worth the patience. This film has so much beauty and depth. High praise to all who worked to tell this story. And you can donate to their animal hospital, which I did immediately. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews
