What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though it at times buckles under the emotional weight of its source material, All The Bright Place succeeds on the strength of Elle Fanning and Justice Smith's charming and tender performances.

Courtney Howard Variety Its pure beating heart and humanistic undertones make it somewhat of a standout. Feb 28, 2020 Full Review Beandrea July The Hollywood Reporter A refreshingly sober spin on YA romance. Feb 28, 2020 Full Review Christy Lemire RogerEbert.com Elle Fanning and Justice Smith are gorgeous together and have lovely chemistry. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 19, 2022 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Although [it] won't be an easy film to watch for people who are triggered by the same issues that the movie's teen characters are coping with, the intention is to help bring awareness to these issues so that people can get and give help in real life. Jul 11, 2021 Full Review Natasha Alvar Cultured Vultures Ultimately, Violet and Finch never attain a living, breathing quality that moves beyond the page on which they were conceived, and that, my friends, is dark stuff indeed. Chiemezie E Brett Haley's "All the bright places" delivers astonishing cinematics and portryas the adventures that come along with mental illness quite accordingly. Musical composer Keegan DeWitt offers a breathtaking musical score that really speaks to the emotional essence of the film and the astonishing beauty of the character's town in Indiana. Elle Manning absolutely crushes her role so effortlessly and Justice Smith really hones into his character towards the half mark of the movie. However, like many teen films addressing such delicate and sensitive topics, it unfortunately falls short on providing the essential closure I think a lot of young audiences need to understand. Younger watchers almost always naturally miscontrue difficult themes. As a result of this mis-closure "All the bright places" unknowingly romanticizes the difficult topics that it all so tenderly tries to tackle. However this doesn't typically poll as an issue amognst more mature audiences. Elle Manning looks EXTREMELY BRITISH. I still wonder if she actually is. Justice Smith looks EXACTLY like Kyle Exum, it's scary. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/25 Full Review Drew B If I had to think of a word for this movie apart from gutwrenching, it would be: Pure. The way the 2 main characters bring this love story to life is absolutely pure. They are as real as it gets. And their pain resonates on the deepest levels. This movie stays with you long after its over. I don't think I can watch it again because I'm not trying to cry. But its a great movie for sure. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/07/25 Full Review Rhyan C This move is one of the greatest young adult movies I have ever seen, I recommend watching it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/27/24 Full Review Joshua A Ang panget, walang dating, malayo sa libro Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/25/24 Full Review Audience Member It has real life problems. The romance between them is amazing. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/03/24 Full Review Kate M I feel as if this movie really grasped the concept of two teens who were struggling with mental illnesses. The film shows them finding the joys of life with each other again due to their adventures for their school assignment. The ending of the film shows that you can still thrive in life even when sad things happen. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/25/24 Full Review Read all reviews
