What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though it at times buckles under the emotional weight of its source material, All The Bright Place succeeds on the strength of Elle Fanning and Justice Smith's charming and tender performances.

Courtney Howard Variety Its pure beating heart and humanistic undertones make it somewhat of a standout. Feb 28, 2020 Full Review Beandrea July The Hollywood Reporter A refreshingly sober spin on YA romance. Feb 28, 2020 Full Review Christy Lemire RogerEbert.com Elle Fanning and Justice Smith are gorgeous together and have lovely chemistry. Rated: 3/4 Feb 28, 2020 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies And while the movie carries some of the lightweight genre appeal you would expect, “All the Bright Places” deserves credit for not just having serious intentions, but actually showing them on the screen. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 19, 2022 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Although [it] won't be an easy film to watch for people who are triggered by the same issues that the movie's teen characters are coping with, the intention is to help bring awareness to these issues so that people can get and give help in real life. Jul 11, 2021 Full Review Natasha Alvar Cultured Vultures Ultimately, Violet and Finch never attain a living, breathing quality that moves beyond the page on which they were conceived, and that, my friends, is dark stuff indeed. Audience Member book was sad movie was sad, finch has my heart, I love you violet *sob* Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/25/25 Full Review Jessica J. It romanticizes suicide. I loved the movie up until the end , then I hated it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/08/25 Full Review Khamael D. This movie made me cry at all the right times and I love how concerned depression and how to handle it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/20/25 Full Review Siam A I kinda found myself in this movie :) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/28/25 Full Review Vixo S Simpler than I expected. All the Bright Places is a film I liked, though I feel its story is far too simple for the potential it had. The acting is very good, and the performers beautifully convey the emotion and vulnerability of their characters, but at times it feels like the movie only scratches the surface of the delicate themes it tries to explore. Strangely enough, what caught my attention the most was how ugly the poster was, which distracted me more than it should have. Still, it’s a decent movie with good intentions and a positive message that might resonate with those looking for a light story about pain and hope. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/15/25 Full Review Conrad C A beautiful movie to watch due in large part to the performances by its leads. Justice Smith is given a real chance to shine and gives a memorable and eccentric performance. The main gripes I had came down to the realism of the ending and the age of the cast who were definitely not believably teenagers anymore. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/27/25 Full Review Read all reviews
