      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Meandering and insubstantial, Aloha finds writer-director Cameron Crowe at his most sentimental and least compelling.

Oleg K Excellent movie, amazing play!!! Not too much, not too less - just perfect!!! One of very few real life stories, where you enjoy not the special effects or computer graphics, but rather outstanding play of every single actor and actress!!! Watched multiple times over and over again and enjoyed every single time!!! Highly recommend it!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/24 Full Review Blu B Well...the music is boring but at least it's something. Besides that I don't even really know what to say about this. I barely know what this is about. Somehing about a disgraced military contractor coming to Hawaii to help do stuff, falls in love, reconnects with his family, save the world from Bill Murray's nuclear plans, and other stuff I guess but it somehow doesn't make any sense. Everything is just so bizarre and surreal in the most uninentional good natured way. The dialouge good lord is horrifically bad and is one of the main reason I have no idea what the heck is happening half the time. It's just befuddled and quirky without making much sense. The scenes themselves are just weird and never work. Even if you have any idea what is happening it never makes sense 90% of the time how it connects to an overarching story. This just throws every single character at you all at once with hardly any devlopment and add on the befuddled dialouge and you get lost instantly. Emma Stone also is incredibly miscast as a military pilot. Besides that I really don't even know what else to say. This is crazy how convuluted and nonsensical this is from Crowe. Skip This at all cost. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/29/24 Full Review Jacklynn A I enjoyed it and will watch it again in the future. The cast alone is mesmerizing. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/24 Full Review Benjamin C One on the worst movies I have seen and I generally like Cameron Crowes work. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/18/23 Full Review Jen U This movie really snuck up on me. It's one of the ones I go back to & have watched multiple times & each time the story deepens. I think its actually brilliant in its subtlety. The characters have such a rich past and they are developed in such a short space of time. Sure, first time watching, there was a lot unexplained but that starts to make more sense second time around and the relationships seem to deepen every-time I watch it. I'm left with more faith in humanity as it's ‘feel good' without the hallmark. Also, the ‘emotional man talk' (without words) between Woody and Brian is hilarious. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/09/23 Full Review JOA T Don't be a cynic, this movie is a beautiful little quirky slice of romance. Played without bombast by all the cast Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Max Weiss Baltimore Magazine Half the time while watching Aloha, I had no clue what was going on. Not so much the plot -- although I was admittedly a bit muddled on that, too -- but why anyone acted the way they did. Rated: 1.5/4 Jun 10, 2016 Full Review Jason Bailey Flavorwire It seems less that Crowe's gifts have escaped him than that they've become disproportionate with his excesses, and we're less forgiving of those trespasses. May 28, 2016 Full Review Lenika Cruz The Atlantic The whole story is a tangled mess. Aloha sees itself as a quirky, funny, and sad, but loudly announces when it's trying to be those things. Jan 21, 2016 Full Review Vadim Rizov Filmmaker Magazine Aloha attempts to resolve two complex potential romances while simultaneously sounding the alarm against the military-industrial complex (!) and contemplating the ongoing marginalization of native Hawaiians. Jan 23, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Many of the actors remain so charming that watching them, even in a film as slapdash as this, makes the entire experience better than it really is. But that doesn’t mean Aloha should be considered passable. Rated: 1.5/4 Jun 21, 2022 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse A sweet natured misfire, a movie that, to once again paraphrase Crowe, does not show us the money.
