Alain E @AlainE Feb 4 This is totally hilarious and very intelligent with multiple good ideas through the whole length. Plus the opportunity to see Ben Stiller’s bum if you ever wondered. (Sorry , not Aniston’s.) When you have a serious actor like the late Seymour Hoffman playing a complete a-hole that’s a good indication how they viewed the movie. Almost equally disgusting is Alec Baldwin’s character. The movie includes salsa dancing, BASE jumping, wind sailing (with a sea wreck at no extra charge) and a blind pet ferret. Highly recommended! This is a movie that sits in the cultural memory as perfectly fine, even weirdly beloved — and yet critics basically buried it. Why? Because it’s messy, broad, and unapologetically juvenile at times. Critics dinged it for being formulaic, leaning into gross-out humor, and not reinventing the rom-com wheel. Fair… but also kind of missing the point. This movie was never trying to be When Harry Met Sally. It’s a comfort-food rom-com with anxiety jokes, awkward energy, and Philip Seymour Hoffman absolutely stealing scenes like he wandered in from a different (and funnier) movie. There’s not a single super gross part, just classic raunch humor. The story is super fun, all the actors are funny and well matched, and laughs never stop till the end.
