Paul Chambers Movie Chambers Haunted house clichs are okay with horror movie fans as long as you show us something new as well. Unfortunately, "Altar," is neither scary nor original. Rated: D Feb 26, 2015 Full Review Read all reviews

kate t Nothing worth watching and no scares. Like many better before and many just as bad. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member A fun spooker. Pretty standard ghost town but enjoyable nonetheless Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Effectively chilling imagery, a dark heavy tone and great acting on the part of the lead is not enough to forgive the last part of this film. Some movies leave you with more questions than answers, in a good way. This is not one of those. It's a pity it changed direction, since the beginning of the film is everything you want in a ghost story. Love, murder, suicide, esoteric altars, the back story is rich and quite spooky. The way the spirit is depicted, in a classic ethereal sort of Dickensian way, sends chills up your spine and builds the movie quite well. Then suddenly, you're treated to a cat and mouse chase, a car being covered in symbols moving on its own, a terrible plan which succeeds only when foiled and, I can't understand this at all, a possible rape which is completely overlooked. It feels like two films. The first, haunting, chilling and well executed. The second, stapled together from tropes, half thoughts and more successful films. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Not very original and the ending sucks Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Moody haunted house--possession flick. It wasn't bad. Real actors and decent production values. Definitely better than most horror genre movies made these days.
