Altered (2006). In brief, simply yet thoroughly enjoyable B-movie schlock fest of the highest order. Take one part good ol' boys, fold in a modern bromance and sprinkling of the bonds of brotherhood, add one guy in rubber suit (oops, I mean, menacing alien), add a dash of damsel in distress and wise (albeit brief) old sage, bake for 88-minutes at moderate to high heat, serve and enjoy. Feeds a full family expecting the movie equivalent of fast food. Pairs exceptionally well with a few cans of suds, or "harder" spirits. (Based on recipe of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", as modified by "Aliens" series, and liberally influenced by all horror-themed shack-in-the-woods movies you've seen before. Late night fare only. Satisfying.)

I was really impressed with how this movie turned out given it's budget. It's exciting and suspenseful. The acting is really good as each character is totally believable. It takes a standard horror trope and adds a unique spin to it. The length of the movie was fine as it never got tired or boring (that says a lot about the pacing too). It's not a movie that will scary you, but it's definitely suspenseful and intriguing.

If you just want to watch a very good sci-fi / horror movie this is your movie. How is this so unknown? I had never even heard of it until I picked up a DVD with three other movies that I like and this was the fourth movie. After watching it I must say that I had a good time watching it. The story is pretty clever and the acting is pretty good. However if you don't like movies with a lot of swearing look elsewhere. This is a hard R for sure.
