Vladan Petkovic Cineuropa Visually and atmospherically, [filmmaker Gabriela] Pichler also strikes a good balance with dynamic cutting between clear digital cinematography and cleverly executed, amateur-like smartphone footage. Audience Member To see how humour, warmth and lightness can bring home some really important messages, please see this film. It's restored my determination to stick with subtitled movies and delve into more of SBS online. Filmed in rural Sweden, we see a sleepy town struggling economically, short on jobs and cash, bidding to win the investment of a German Superbilly discount store. The community Council decides to make a short film to promote the town to the Germans. Everyone gets involved. We see the town through the lense of the storytellers on smartphones, warts and all. And don't expect any car-chases or excitement, because it is just a small rural town, and we see it for what it is. Life lived simply, and not far from the historic roots of Sweden only 100 years ago being 50% farming community. I really loved this film, and am disappointed to see it's not 'up there' in the reviews so far. It was fresh, funny, poignant, beautiful. A great example of how comedy can deliver some pretty important messages - multiculturalism, globalism and shifting economics, small-town politics, inter-generational family, and friendship. The fact that it manages to do so in such a light and warm way gives the message even more appeal and manages to slide in under the radar. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review catherine w A very funny film that uses a small Swedish town to explore the complexities of multiculturalism and the global economy. Terrific performances by all three leads. Ignore the lukewarm reviews and make up your own mind. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
