Rated 3/5 Stars •  Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review joe m Light hearted film about a rich man (Grant) who takes a bet to prove he could make it living in London for one year not using any of his wealth. Typical riches-to-rags-to-riches films from the Great Depression yet, like so many, enjoyable still because its pure escapism. Found out that Carry Grant has more friends and closer relationships with people on a British 5 Pound budget a month than when he was rich without a job. I liked the film for it's story and would recommend the film to others. Rated 4/5 Stars •  Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member "Herein, a nearly transparent crowd pleaser, only a short story actually, of a playboy who learns about "what's important in life" from "the regular people" when he takes a medically advised year off from his sizeable inherited fortune. This sort of idea was a popular (and profitable) theme in mass entertainment: that working stiffs understood life better than the swells. There are no surprises here, only the charm of the time (if the Great Depression can be expressed as charming) and the performers delivery, lead by Grant himself.
