Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall The film feels overlong and one-sided, but it traverses a long-needed debate. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 28, 2019 Full Review Andrew Karpan Nonfics A lively debate over the fate of foreskins. Sep 7, 2018 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film A must for parents-to-be considering this issue - if only because, whatever they choose, it can help to give them confidence that they have made an informed decision - Brendon Marotta's film presents a wide-ranging analysis of a neglected subject. Rated: 4/5 Aug 30, 2018 Full Review Bradley Gibson Film Threat If you're a person who cleaves to evidence based science, it's a hard film to watch because the scientific method takes a beating in all the emotional histrionics. Rated: 6/10 Apr 20, 2018 Full Review Harvey S. Karten Big Apple Reviews A razor-sharp documentary and call to action in support of banning circumcision nationwide in America. Heinz M It's a very good documentation about a very big problem that's getting swept under the rug. It's a shame that we, in 2024, even still have to talk about that evil and gruesome act. That we have to talk about if it's okay to amputate important parts of babies genitals. And that we even have to talk about if if it's okay to cut torture a baby, just because someone wants to do it to them. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/04/24 Full Review Chelsea B Stomach turning, and heartbreaking, but optimistic as a whole. Some parts were unexpected and particularly interesting; the Canadian (most Canadians are intact, fwiw) being one; and the woman who spoke positively about being circumcized willing as an adult in Sierra Leone was another. I was not previously aware of the restoration movement, with its inventive devices and enthusiasts. The producers definitely take a stand towards intactivism. The current inability (or unwillingness) of American society to be able to have this discussion at the level of local politics, including in highly progressive cities, due to the conflation of anti-neonatal / anti-minor sexual mutilation with anti-semitism, is exceedingly depressing. I appreciate the documentary highlighting Jewish men who are activists against involuntary / non-consensual circumcision. There's a long way to go though. From personal experience, it's really hard for people to grasp they've been lied to and that the "health benefits" have been greatly exaggerated. It is really hard for cut men to come to terms with the reality that they've lost something vital, when they themselves didn't choose it, and see it as impossible to get it back or have a choice in the matter now. It's made more complex by a culture of these types of victimized boys in America going onto bully intact boys as being "weird" and / or "dirty", and young girls and women, in their ignorance, perpetuating these myths and inaccurate stereotypes too. But you catch more flies with honey. Instead of 'forcing' the adults to recognize that what was done to them and many of their peers constitutes A Tragedy and Deep Humiliation, maybe the more effective way of protecting the next generations and phasing the cutting out, is to Normalize Normal, Intact Penises, in American schools. And art, and culture. Make it socially Safer for the minority who are being bullied for being intact; and make it safer for those who Were circumcized, to consider letting *their* children, decide what's ultimately best for themselves in this regard. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Thought-provoking documentary on a taboo subject and human rights abuse - child genital cutting - that has affected and still affects millions of children and the adults they became. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member It was extremely informative. Yes at times it is one-sided; however, I believe every parent who has to make this decision NEEDS to watch this movie. There are so many things to consider when that time comes for those who have baby boys. The decision should not be taken lightly either. I say a solid 4 stars!! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member American Circumcision is an unbiased documentary on the topic of circumcision. If you discount the 20 minutes on the topic of foreskin restoration, the pro-circumcision experts are given the exact same amount of screen time as the pro-foreskin experts. Also, you can tell that all of the Rotten critics are either circumcised men or men who support circumcision. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member it does have an axe to grind but educational & enlightening.. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews
