DanTheMan 2 The theatrical swansong for the great house of Cannon, the stars miraculously aligned for American Cyborg: Steel Warrior. The film is a visual feast, a true cyberpunk western, with a lean, fast-paced story and plenty of fisticuff action amidst the post-apocalyptic nuclear landscape of the future, making for a delectably derivative action flick. The film is a not-so-subtle riff on the nightmarish robot holocaust from The Terminator, complete with its own unstoppable killer cyborg, but with much more overt and obtuse biblical elements with a dash of Blade Runner for good measure. Written and directed by eclectic madman Boaz Davidson, he captures the cold blue hues and grunge of the future exceptionally well and, to his credit, the film is never boring even with his low I can only assume the unlisted budget was. As with many of these B-movie sci-fi slices of joy, this one has plenty of dystopian sex punks, shanty towns, mutants, deadly frisbees, ridiculously overegged symbolism; and an epic mission to deliver the one fertile woman, who Davidson couldn't help but name Mary, in all the Americas to safety. The cast is all fun to watch although John Saint Ryan's rather menacing and virtually indestructible killer cyborg is easily the highlight. However, rather hilariously he's the least robotic of the entire cast. The cherry on top for me was the incredible synth rock score by Blake Leyh, as equal parts suspenseful as it is pulse-pounding. A brilliantly schlocky last gasp from the legends at Cannon, American Cyborg: Steel Warrior represents what these guys were all about, masters of the B-movie machine till the end. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/29/24 Full Review Audience Member Cheap ass version of the termninator Boaz davidson you suck!!!! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member American Cyborg is a heartwarming tale of forbidden robot on human love. The part of the story where the killer robot hunts down his blond human girlfriend for running off with their baby speaks about the deepness of the human soul... This is a terrible movie. Bad music, bad costume design and hair... Though there are sweet mustaches involved. The only time where it is OK to watch this is when you are high and it is on a Spanish speaking network. I only gave it a 20% due to the criteria stated above.
