Peter Rainer FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) There's just not enough poking around in the Bannon-verse by Morris. Oct 24, 2020 Full Review Ty Burr Boston Globe The movie's worth taking in, though, as a shaky confrontation with a very American kind of demon, one weaned on the shallow, heroic lies of Hollywood individualism, furious that life rarely works that way, and willing to wreck the house in response. Rated: 3/4 Jan 2, 2020 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Kid-glove treatment of the former Donald Trump advisor is surprising coming from the hard-hitting interviewer of Robert McNamara and Donald Rumsfeld. Rated: 2/4 Dec 17, 2019 Full Review Vadim Rizov Filmmaker Magazine We live in profoundly, dangerously stupid times; Morris’s film does nothing to clarify them or combat their architects. Jan 4, 2023 Full Review David Walsh World Socialist Web Site Morris essentially provides this scandalmonger and inciter of racial and ethnic hatred a platform for most of the one and a half hours of the film. Feb 10, 2021 Full Review John McDonald Australian Financial Review It's commonly believed culture is a civilising influence but Bannon is the living refutation of that idea. Alec B Morris isn't all that different from the mainstream media except that crucially he is willing to engage with Bannon. The movie is sort of a mixed bag of obvious observations and genuinely intriguing examinations. Basically I think its good to let Bannon talk as it allows you to see his fair points along with his truly delusional beliefs. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/25/24 Full Review Marc C Compelling exploration of how the far-right views things. Critics complaining that Morris didn't attack Bannon are clearly missing the point. Had he done so, instead of generating some rapport with Bannon, I highly doubt we would have heard as much as we did. Any intelligent person can draw their own conclusions about Bannon's philosophy and tactics, more easily after a full disclosure from the horse's mouth. We don't need to turn our brains off and watch an expected or one-sided bashing. As usual with most Morris presentations, simultaneously thought-provoking, puzzling and troubling. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Decent synopsis of who Bannon is and his inherent genius. He's always the smartest one in the room. Unfortunately, the corrupt and demonic MSM makes him out to be something he is not. MSM's basic doctrine and promotion of fear and mistrust ONLY to maintain power has certainly perverted what Bannon is all about. But he understands the media and works within it to work for the people. And this is what the Cronies who control the MSM are most fearful of. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Another great documentary by Errol Morris! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member WOW! This documentary is so refreshingly insightful. A must see. Steve bares his soul with such bravery and honesty. A man who stands for truth, integrity and America. This is such a rarity to see something in a theater that didn't have a leftist agenda or narrative it was pushing. Take your kids, take your neighbors, take your family to see this once in a lifetime open and honest look at America. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member A sober look at one of the most dangerous men in American culture. This movie needs to be seen by more people.
