A jaw-dropping true crime documentary, American Pain tells the story of twin brothers and bodybuilders Chris and Jeff George, who operated a franchise of pain clinics in Florida where they handed out pain pills like candy. The brothers haul in trash bags full of cash each day as their business grows, to the point that lines of people wrap around the block and busloads of new patients arrive from surrounding states daily.

Natalia Winkelman New York Times The utility of an energetic character study of depraved opioid kingpins is questionable. But the documentary unspools with enough style and spark to engage. Jun 8, 2023 Full Review John Anderson Wall Street Journal Being appalled by people who get their comeuppance is always entertaining, and American Pain fills that bill, though the misbehavior Mr. Foster chronicles is so shameless that viewers might start to lose their bearings. Feb 6, 2023 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety Landing between the terrain of The Wolf of Wall Street and Pain & Gain, this grotesque account of filthy lucre built on ruined lives sprinkles believe-it-or-not details amidst a headlong editorial pace. Jun 28, 2022 Full Review Johnny Loftus Decider American Pain is a wild ride as Chris George and his crew’s pill mill pushing rakes in cash even as it spits out victims. And while it’s satisfying to see them brought to justice, a bitterness remains... Jul 10, 2023 Full Review Chris Barsanti The Playlist A bruising and vital piece of film journalism Rated: A- Jun 16, 2022 Full Review Jason Gorber POV Magazine American Pain is that rare documentary that’s both highly entertaining and excruciating to contemplate given the way it strips the façade of fairness and justice within a broken system. John S How arrogant they were and how they laughed about The lives they destroyed. The one thing they didn't want to put in there after doing research they all cooperating and ratted. But got on TV and bragged and laughed about it all like they were tough guys. How can anybody respect cowards. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/19/24 Full Review Tyler G Infuriating and captivating documentary about the scummy underbelly of the painkillers epidemic. The source material use of recordings is incredible. There is no larger critique going on here- these people, for the most part, are shameless and unrepentant and worth the 100 minutes to meet. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/29/23 Full Review Nick T Wish more time was spent focusing on the victims, local policymakers, law enforcement, etc. There is nothing worth glorifying about these racist monsters. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/04/23 Full Review Jason P Only in America and even more than that, only in Florida!! Great documentary, very sobering. It wasn't just the Sacklers/Purdue Pharma that are responsible for this epidemic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/14/23 Full Review Andy B Almost unbelievable true crime documentary where America's depressingly easy to exploit monetised health system is brought into the spotlight. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/15/23 Full Review StephenPaul C The greatest 01 hour: and 46 minutes of true-crime footage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
