Soon after the Montelli family buys a house in the Long Island suburb of Amityville, unsettling events begin to occur. Mysterious demons seem to infest the house, preying on abusive father Anthony (Burt Young) and ferociously religious mother Dolores (Rutanya Alda), who calls on family priest Father Adamsky (James Olson) for an exorcism. Teenage Sonny (Jack Magner) is drawn furthest into madness, abusing his younger sister, Patricia (Diane Franklin), and eventually exploding in a horrific fury.

Gary Arnold Washington Post The sequel makes grotesque, heartless use of an authentic tragedy which predated the alleged haunting spree exploited in The Amityville Horror. Apr 30, 2018 Full Review Nick Schager Slant Magazine A depressing imitation of The Exorcist. Rated: 1.5/4 Apr 4, 2005 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times This movie is actually slightly better than The Amityville Horror, maybe because it rips off superior source material. Rated: 2/4 Oct 23, 2004 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …locates the doomed family’s issues firmly within male intransigence..here’s real edge and conviction rather than cheese and gore, it's surprisingly well performed and it’s literally the only movie in the Amityville franchise that works… Rated: 3/5 Sep 18, 2024 Full Review Joe Lipsett Bloody Disgusting Campier than its much tamer predecessor, Amityville 2 is a slasher crossed with an Exorcist film. Featuring a queer-coded priest, incest and solid practical effects, this sequel is a wild ride. Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 27, 2022 Full Review Alan Jones Starburst A superbly crafted, handsomely produced, superior haunted house tale that on more than one occasion will send shivers up your spine. James B Amityville II Is a good sequel and prequel that has fantastic gore. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review Lucas C This is my favorite of the Amityville movies, but that's not saying much since I found most of them boring, stupid, or both. What sets this one apart is tone. The original movie and all is the other sequels all seemed like Horror Lite. The sort of scary movie that Lifetime might have made. This particularly entry may lack intelligence, and it may not always make a lot of sense, but it's rarely boring. Unfortunately for some viewers, it's strongly unpleasant. Incest and other taboos are major plot points here, as are a lot of other unpleasant things. It's an ugly movie. That being said, it's still a stronger movie in most ways than any of the others in the series, with the possible exception being the Ryan Reynolds remake of the first film (which is still pretty ridiculous, but Reynolds is great). So if you are looking for a "Gee, that's creepy" kinda haunted house movie, go for the original. Just don't expect any real socks or thrills or pacing.... On the other hand, if you don't mind some sleaze and darkness in your horror flicks, this one is worth a watch. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/15/24 Full Review Eddy C Love this one, its a great prequel and lovely sequel to a classic at the same time. Burt Young is fantastic and the love interest with Brother and sister is groundbreaking and disturbing. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/12/24 Full Review Steve D An unintentional comedy with paper thin characters with human-like responses. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/21/23 Full Review Don C I thought it, quite entertaining. I found Ms. Alda, Mr. Young and, Ms. Franklin especially good. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Liam D This is much more wild than the first movie and it's way better than the original Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/17/22 Full Review Read all reviews
