While it starts with a formulaic premise, the ways in which the filmmakers elevate the story to new and truly frightening heights, combined with their proven visual style, make for something entirely unexpected and disturbing.

Horrible movie! The whole movie is an effort of ridiculous filming. It takes forever to get through it and the storyline does not make any sense. One scene it takes forever for the police to arrive and in that time the killer manages to wreak havoc on the family. The end wants you to feel sorry for the killer and father but it just does not work. This film is awful and I don't see why it would get anything more than a star, that's even too much for this dismal failure of a movie. Avoid this movie at all costs.

I don't know why but I was expecting Among the Living to be one of the french extremism horror movies and it's not. It doesn't pull punches with who dies, but the graphicness of the kills is mild. (foreverfinalgirl.com/among-the-living/)

It was one of the stupidest horror films ever made. If you have seen the Geico commercial where the teens run into a shed full of sharp objects vs the running ready to go car, to flee the pursuit of the crazed maniac; then you'll get the gist of what kind of stupid I'm referring to.

It's pretty good considering it's an indie. It can't accomplish it's lofty goals (of being a horror version of Stand By Me), but it does come across as an entertaining movie with some really good suspense and decent scares. The acting by each kid is real and genuine. The villain is good while mask but loses some of it's lustre when he becomes unmasked. Overall I would recommend this movie to horror fans, esp'ly those who have "seen everything".

I like a horror film where no one feels safe, but this one was almost too much so for me. I'm tempted to call this a more horrific version of The Goonies, even though it isn't that.
