      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

If its chilly sense of dread never quite becomes spine-tingling terror, Amulet remains smart, solidly disquieting fun for genre fans seeking slow-building horror.

Ricardo d O filme tem um bom suspense, mantém preso, mesmo com seu ritmo lento, como se estivéssemos lendo um livro de terror. A ambientação é linda, bela fotografia e iluminação. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review Rik V Great first effort from actor/director Romola Garai. It's suspenseful and scary without the gore for the most part. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/30/23 Full Review SYCO GAMING The movie was good ... the plot was maybe expected .... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/01/23 Full Review Thomas R This is one of the worst debuts of any horror director I've seen. The premise is farcical ("mothers" birthing rat/bats as demons), the pacing is slow, the two story elements don't correlate, the execution is weak, and the reveal is a letdown. The only redeeming factors of this cinematic mess is the acting with Alec Secareanu (Tomaz) and Imelda Staunton (Sister Claire). Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/17/23 Full Review richard t The premise was engaging, I think, but the execution was less so. I found this film moved very, very slowly, and it just didn't hold my attention. I think it was aiming for creeping menace but instead just crept. Mark Kermode Observer (UK) A moody, brooding chiller that goes from slow-boil creaks to rapturous, hallucinogenic madness. Rated: 4/5 Jan 30, 2022 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) Though the performances are less than memorable, and the narrative would certainly collapse under the weight of even low-level scrutiny, Garai nonetheless emerges as a formidable stylist. Rated: 3/5 Jan 28, 2022 Full Review Tim Robey Daily Telegraph (UK) This chamber-horror oddity from the English actress-turned-auteur is too weird, too wonky; intermittently gross, and often gruelling. Rated: 2/5 Jan 27, 2022 Full Review Josh Parham Next Best Picture Unfortunately, the story finds itself lacking in successfully crystalizing many of its muddled themes along with its inconsistent world-building. Rated: 5/10 Jun 5, 2022 Full Review Maria Lattila FILMHOUNDS Magazine It may not be perfect and it includes some questionable narrative choices, but Amulet is still directed wonderfully by Garai. Rated: 3/5 Feb 4, 2022 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall With her feature writing-directing debut, Romola Garai creates an oppressively creepy atmosphere in which a nasty horror mystery plays out.
