Brent McKnight The Last Thing I See While not terribly original, "And Soon the Darkness" is an entertaining film that, within genre confines, delivers exactly what it promises-tension, suspense, and a story that catches and holds your attention throughout. Jelisije J 2 young women decide to travel to South America alone and low and behold we got a kidnapping movie. No true engaging story with no true memorable characters. The biggest sin for this movie is that its forgettable. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/10/24 Full Review Dani M I think that many people unfairly reviewed this movie because of its slower-than-average pace and because they may not have gotten the Hostel kind of gore that they may have been expecting from it going in. However, the slow pace is its strength even as it is an aspect of the 1970s British thriller of the same title of which it is a remake. This pace, complemented by Amber Heard's (Stephanie) and César Vianco's (as Calvo) gripping performances, does well in building the tension that is at the core of the movie's plot and design as a mystery thriller/horror (not a slasher so don't expect gore). The plot itself is also well-written, despite the fact that it uses one or two clichés common to the subgenre of which the movie is a part. And while the movie, somewhat inadvertently, communicates some problematic nationalistic themes that may be considered racist or xenophobic, it also contains several positive themes with respect to gender and socioeconomic issues. In all then, I recommend the movie to most people for the aforementioned reasons, but especially for its mystery and thrill and for the entertaining performances of Amber Heard, Odette Yustman (as Ellie), and César Vianco. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Oh my god, I've seen some bad Amber Heard movies but this one is the worst. the only thing good for Odette Yustman, who is super, super hot, but other than that, this is the stupid, dumbest movie I've ever seen. Since this is from 2010, had Amber got nude, then this would have been much, much better, but somehow the director/writer/etc thought she should play a good girl, so we were stuck with her acting ability. Barf! This is a horrible movie, and Amber is such a dumb, just plain terrible actor. This is not based on her trial, but on her talent, or lack thereof only. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Credited for some thrilling parts, And Soon The Darkness is a terribly dull thriller witch is a partly not bad movie but will want it to be over into the movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Fergus Stapleton. Very routine story of tourists in danger. Too slow and takes too long to really get going. Good locations and a good performance from Heard just about save it. A shady performance from Urban helps as well. Overall a reasonable time filler. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Frances H The suspense was hindered by the stupid things the characters did, as if they had never seen any movies where these same things happened--like never turn your back on a killer, and always frisk them to make sure they don't have a weapon stashed somewhere, never split up, always carry a knife of some kind when you are biking or hiking, etc. These girls break up about every safety rule there is. And how Karl Urban's character survived as long as he had was a miracle. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/02/16 Full Review Read all reviews
