Stu D Plot? Yeah, it had one. It wasn't perfect, but it'll do. Acting? Pretty stiff. Olga Kalashnikova definitely tries too hard, and her overacting is painfully cringeworthy for most of the film. Kenneth Matepi has a few stiff moments, but he's mostly believable. Some of his lines, particularly early on in the film, were corny and rather limiting. Overall, I think he'd have been more fluid in his native accent. Some of the minor roles actually seemed to be more believable actors. The young Tobias family was impressively smooth. How much is a result of the choices we make or just happenstance who can tell? Then, many times the choices we make take us down a road we never intended. The main characters have all suffered tragic circumstances in their lives and unbeknownst to them they are on a collision course to find each other. The movie is very engrossing, emotional as well as lighthearted at times. There are things that would seem predictable in another film, but here there appears to be a life force directing their actions from another realm, which makes coincidence believable. The shots of Hawaii are breathtaking. The actors are well cast and Kenneth Matepi and Olga Kalashnikova are especially good. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Directed and written by Jeff Wallace, making his first full-length movie, Angel By Thursday is about two families connected by tragedy and coincidence. It's about daughters trying to reconnect with mothers. About men attempting to be strong enough to care for the special needs of their brother and aunt. It's about the interconnected nature that binds and connects people throughout the world, no matter how far away they start or how close they come together. And it's about how we each have a very different perception of each person that we meet, as in one life, you can be someone's hero, someone's savior, someone's enemy or just somebody that passes in and out of their life. I was surprised just how much this movie made me consider my life and the roles of those within it. Perhaps you'll watch it and get the very same feeling. It just tells a story and hopes that by its end its message of love and hope are carried along.
