Hugo "Anguish" is actually closer to be a drama (instead of horror) as it focus on mental health issues and on the relationship between mother and daughter. The ambiguity prevails until the end: possession or dementia? No matter what the audience believes in, most of the movie is certainly tedious and plain. Mediocre performances. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/19/22 Full Review Audience Member Good cinematography but a really really slow movie. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member ACTUALLY SO BAD! Like seriously don't watch. It was so slow & nothing happened lol wasn't even scary & I get scared really easily. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member This stupid film is so stupid and terrible, it actually makes me angry for investing (wasted) time on this stupidity and terribleness. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Slow and steady. I liked the plot a lot but it wasn’t super thrilling. If you like low key movies it’s really good. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/10/18 Full Review Audience Member Could have been good of it weren't for it dragging on forever and most scenes nothing happens. Boring. Katie Walsh Los Angeles Times The film ends up a lovely rumination on the bond between mother and daughter that transcends death and dimension. Mar 28, 2018 Full Review Jonathan Romney Observer (UK) If ever a film failed to live up to its title... mild impatience, more like it. Rated: 2/5 Apr 3, 2016 Full Review Ed Potton Times (UK) A film called Anguish hardly sounds enticing but I think I'd prefer anguish to what this arthouse horror actually serves up, which is plain tedium. Rated: 2/5 Mar 31, 2016 Full Review Matt Donato We Got This Covered Within a matter of hours, Anguish went from an ambiguous horror title to one of my top horror films of the year. Rated: 4/5 Mar 28, 2018 Full Review Matt Looker Total Film A refreshingly character-focused horror story, garnished with creepily effective visuals. Rated: 4/5 Jan 2, 2017 Full Review Jordan Adcock CineVue Anguish isn't the scariest or most original thriller but it's a surprisingly involving and creepy one.
