Recorded in the wilderness of Africa, this documentary focuses on the various animals that live in arid desert environments. Taking a somewhat humorous approach to its subjects, the film draws parallels between animal and human behavior, and displays a wide range of wildlife, including baboons, warthogs, impalas, zebras, hyenas, giraffes, elephants and lions. Among the many animal antics depicted are a variety of mammals getting drunk on fermented fruit.

Steven D. Greydanus Decent Films Notwithstanding the excessive cuteness of the anthropomorphizing title… an entertaining, original documentary about life in the harsh conditions of southwest Africa's Namib Desert… makes fine family viewing. Rated: B+ Aug 29, 2003 Full Review Ken Hanke Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC) Often too cute for its own good, but overall such a pleasant change of pace from the usual documentary that it's a film worth seeing. duncan p One of those classic pieces of South African cinema, it's basically a nature documentary with sardonic, anthropomorphising narration. It's kinda set up in some places, and clearly a lot of editing was done to create certain narratives, but it's harmless, has a few bits that are actually quite funny, and is far from the worst film this country has ever made. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review spencer p It's difficult to decide if its obviously deliberate staging of certain events and comedic editing style make it worth recommending as a nature doc. It's surely a pleasure to look at anyway. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Childhood classic about African wildlife. Of course the camera work and editing did not age all that well and some of the cuts are clearly cheating to tell a coherent short story, but no kid could tell back then. A humorous and fun biology lesson with cute animals and small teachings about the circle of life. Treat your child with this lovely film. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Hilarious and Educational, all at the same time! See how humans have more in common with animals than we ever thought possible! For all ages, young and old! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Absolutely hilarious, as well as informative.
