Frau Kutowski (Lotti Huber) is an overweight old woman who resides in a mental hospital in Berlin. Kutowski is convinced that she is Anita Berber (Ina Blum), the controversial burlesque dancer of post-World War I Germany, famous for her nude, androgynous performances and blatant drug and alcohol use. Kutowski spends her days switching between the present and "memories" of the past as Berber in her mind, adding the staff and other patients into her fantasies, until reality begins to blur.
