      Critics Consensus

Stocked with leading men who look the part but lacking an iota of original plot, Annapolis is merely a watery shadow of superior seafaring military dramas. Read critic reviews

Annapolis is an awful, clichéd mess of a film that fails to entertain. This is the type of film that relies on a poorly thought script, one that simply doesn't work. The characters are generic, and the story is something that we've seen many times before. James Franco has done far better work than this, but Annapolis is one of his worst films. This is a bland affair, one that is just boring, with nothing that's ever interesting that occurs on-screen. The dialogue and performances are laughable, and this is simply put, a film that isn't worth your time. I hated the film, and felt it was a pointless film. This is a prime example of what happens when a film has too many clichés going for it, the end result suffers greatly, and it ends up falling flat. If you're looking for an entertaining film with this one, you'll sadly be disappointed. Annapolis is a forgettable film that scraps the bottom of the barrel. This is one of those films that should have been reworked on before getting green lit. Watch something else; you'll be glad you did. This film just copies every feel good film, and waters down the formula and plays out every cliché in the book. Annapolis is a collection of bad actors and a poor story that ends up being a pointless effort. I don't think that the filmmakers cared to really make a good film with this one. Overall this is a soulless movie, and one we've seen many times before. The only difference is, is that there are better films out tackling the same subject.

How should I call this movie? Inspiring? We just find out that anyone can get in the Naval Academy, regardless of his/hers physical skills... aren't you tempted to give it a try, now that you know it? Because I'm really interested ... it seems that students have a lot of time at their disposal to spend in the company of a charming superior officer.

I didn't plan to see it, I didn't know what it was, and I didn't know who was in it. But my dad came home from Blockbuster one day with a movie entitled "Annapolis" and I saw the amazing James Franco's face and name on the front and knew that no matter what it was about I'd see it. And I did. And now I'm here to tell you that even if you don't like James Franco, or the navy, or actiony movies you will LOVE Annopolis. It is centered around the action it takes to be in the naval acadamy, but more than that it's an inspirational story of a man who couldn't get things right but could make friends, a love, and a journey out of the struggles and emotions it takes to be in Annapolis. He isn't smart but he is fit and his strength will inspire him to help his smarter friends with their health problems and they will help him with his knowledge. It takes alot to make it out of Annapolis, DO THEY HAVE IT? Why it's PG-13: Because of some sexual inuendo, and intense boxing sequences. Favorite Quotes: Jake Huard: He's right you know. Twins: Can I borrow your starch? Jake Huard: Look, I don't get it. Why are you still here? Twins: You want to know why I stay in this room? Jake Huard: Yeah. Twins: Cause Jake, you're my Mississippi. Jake Huard: I'm your what? Twins: People who live in Arkansas, you know what their favorite state is? Jake Huard: No. Twins: Mississippi. Cause Mississippi's the only thing that keeps Arkansas from being the worst state in the whole country. Jake Huard: I'm Mississippi. Twins: Well you sure as hell ain't California. Listen, Cole and Whitaker are so buys tryin' to run you out they forgot about me. As a matter of fact, they've forgotten about every other plebe in this whole company. That's why I stay in this room Jake. Cause if Mississippi quits, then all of a sudden Arkansas is the worst state in the whole country. Lt. Commander Burton: He also said you were the biggest pain in the ass he'd ever met. Jake Huard: I had to go back a couple times. Lt. Commander Burton: How many? Jake Huard: 34 straight days, sir. Jake Huard: What are you looking at? Porn? Twins: It's not porn. Estrada: Hey, you guys looking at porn? Twins: Yeah. Whitaker: Come on you Butterball move it! Twins: Sir, I'm trying, Sir! Whitaker: Stop trying and do it! Twins: Sir, yes, sir! Whitaker: You know what, I'm gonna start calling you Twins, do you know why, Twins? Twins: Sir, because I carry the weight of two normal people, sir Whitaker: Oh you're smart too, so you can realize that if your fat ass doesn't make it up that obstacle your fat ass will be separated! Do you understand Twins? Twins: Sir, yes, sir Estrada: Help is like sex... Take it from whoever and whenever you can get it!

Been done before, been done better. Felt... lacking. James Franco does ok but could have had a better vehicle for his first starring role.
