Francesca Rudkin New Zealand Herald Anne of Green Gables is rather lovely. Perfect mother and daughter viewing these holidays. Rated: 3/5 Jul 7, 2016 Full Review Louise Keller Urban Cinefile A heartfelt retelling of Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic children's story Anne of Green Gables, this Canadian telemovie wonderfully captures all the elements of its young red-haired protagonist. Audience Member Contrary to most of the reviews I have read on various sites, I really liked this movie. I haven't read the book in its entirety, but this movie was well made and had some nice performances. I don't have anything to compare this to, but I did enjoy Martin Sheen. He was the only actor I recognized but he was very good in this. I know a lot of people hate this version but I did end up crying at the end, so that says a lot for me. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review andrew s The movie attempted to incorporate a lot of elements from the book, but was unable to tie them together adequately, making many elements of the plot seem like non-sequiturs. It felt rushed. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The interpretation is so uterly bad I couldn't even get to the end. Everything seems to be monochrome without any excitement although the book gets you excited every time you read it. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member It is a cute story with a charming Anne. It is always good to see Martin Sheen in a movie. This version is like the Las Vegas Night Club Version: Anne loses the brooch, Marilla finds the brooch, move on. Anne gets Diana drunk, Anne saves Dianas's sister from dying of the croupe; NEXT? It is for people who want to hear the story but have a short attention span. Nothing is allowed to develop before they are on to the next plot point. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member This was tragically bad. Bad dye job, fake freckles, and stilted, insincere "acting". I imagine it is especially appalling to all of us who have read the book. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member They certainly did pack quite a bit into this 90 minute retelling of Anne of Green Gables. Ella Ballentine did a great job as Anne, but she can't really hold a candle to Megan Follows; Megan will always be the benchmark to anyone portraying Anne Shirley. Do yourself a favor - skip this remake & carve yourself out a block of time to watch the original mini-series done in 1985. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Read all reviews
