Brent McKnight The Last Thing I See Mark of the Witch is an incredibly authentic recreation of the giallo form, for good and for ill. Rated: C Jul 3, 2020 Full Review Jacqui Blue Film Inquiry Mark of the Witch feels like one long visually enticing nightmare that makes about as much sense as a bad dream in an alternate reality. Jan 9, 2017 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film For all its failings, for all its pretension, Mark Of The Witch is a damn sight bolder and more interesting than most of what's around these days, and for that reason it's well worth seeking out. Rated: 3/5 Jun 9, 2016 Full Review Matt Donato We Got This Covered You know those indie horror movies your indie-horror-hating friends make fun of? That's Mark Of The Witch. Rated: 3/10 Jun 8, 2016 Full Review Andrea Chase Killer Movie Reviews Alas, people will not stop talking, will not allow this to be a quasi-experimental work that gnaws like a worm into our sense of well-being by using imagery that is both confounding and limbic. Rated: 1/5 May 26, 2016 Full Review David N. Butterworth La Movie Boeuf Cinematographed within an inch of its life (and death), "Mark of the Witch" (aka "Another") would have worked beautifully as a silent picture. Diamond W Many critics of this film have valid points to make, but alas they judge it unfairly. Much is made of it's homage to Argento or giallos, which is dubious and mostly irrelevant to this films distinctive approach. Like it, or not this film stands out, and stands alone among it's modern indie-occult peers. It does have flaws, which, to indie-film lovers, can be endearing. Those who enjoy the art of cinema should definitely notice the decent camera work boosted into the stratosphere by inventive and masterful post-production and editing effects. The sound design is also far superior to what is typical at this level. The film deftly explores themes of youth, power, age, wisdom and the eternal nature of consciousness as it passes through vessels, incarnations and generations, all without ever losing it's sense of dynamism and fun. The presence of Maria Olsen and Michael St. Michaels is practically a guaranteed good time for those who know. If you have trouble threading the needle on this one, perhaps watch it again. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/17/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie was really awesome! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member I thought it was awesome. There are some subpar, poorly done aspects, but it has the balls to be weird and artsy and psuedo incoherent without damaging the central plot, which is actually kind of cool. If this movie came out 20 years ago, it would be a cult classic. Today, it's proof that amateurs can still offer something to the audience, if they bring passion and vision, and the viewers are willing to meet them half-way. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Boring!! I don't often get bored by horror films and I have seen many. But I was so uninterested watching this film that I almost took it back to the shop to ask for a refund. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Mark of the Witch (Another) is a long and painful 76 minutes that, had it played out at normal speed with a little less padding, it could have made for a fun short or episode of a horror anthology. As it is, it's slow, unnecessarily weird and cheap looking, with the wide-eyed central performance from Paulie Rojas the only thing worth sitting through it for. All credit to writer/director Jason Bognacki for trying to do something different to the watered-down childish nonsense that makes up most of mainstream horror at the moment but mimicking Dario Argento when you clearly don't have the resources or enough of a finished film to do it properly means you're left with an off-kilter horror movie that mainstream audiences won't get and those in the know won't care for. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Actually called Mark of the Witch and even has a sorta good witch named Ruthie in it, but it's actually a pile of trash! Some of the shots are really good, but others are really bad, and it's mostly uninteresting, with some moments of really bad blood and fire cgi. A curse upon you! Horror movies with "Ruthie" or "Ruthless" characters or production companies are bad! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
