William Bibbiani TheWrap These characters look and sound and feel, more so than in many other animated films, fake. That's not generally the effect one looks for in telling a true story. Sep 13, 2019 Full Review Robert Abele Los Angeles Times "Another Day of Life" [is] not just another war-is-hell story, but a powerfully thorny war-journalism-is-hell tale too. Sep 13, 2019 Full Review Ben Kenigsberg New York Times An engrossing film in which form and function can be intriguingly opposed. Sep 12, 2019 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy This primarily employs motion-capture animation but also periodically breaks for live-action sequences. Audience Member With a hip, stylized cel shaded look meshed together with interviews and images of the real life counterparts of the dramatization, Another Day of a lifetepps a intense and intimate story of war and political intrigue. Some of the animation and voice acting is stiff and unimpressive matching the feeling of a mid budget video game cutscene. The desensitized sense of emotion of the animated scenes is contrasted purposefully with it's real life imagery. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review nefasto r The horrors of wars, in this case, are fought with beautiful images, both real and drawn. And even if I did not see a point of finding a good side and a bad side, I liked the fusion of styles of this docu-drama. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie was pretty great! This movie is like two movies in one. Part of it is a documentary about the Angolan Civil War. The other part is an animated film about the same subject, following Polish journalist Ryszard Kapuscinski reporting on the war in the 1970s. The first thing that I need to talk about is the animation. It is animated in that rotoscoped cell-shaded CGI style similar to A Scanner Darkly or the Love, Death & Robots short Fish Night. Normally, I hate animation that is trying to look realistic, but I didn't mind it here. There are many sequences of animation in this movie that just couldn't possibly work as well in live-action. The colours are really nice and it is intense! It actually feels like you're in the middle of a war! The story I found very interesting and the intercut documentary footage of people who actually knew the main character in real life and are characters in the movie themselves was really cool and helped with my understanding of the story and the history behind the film. The acting was really good as well and I really cared about the characters. Overall, if you like animation or historical war movies, you should watch this movie. It's very short, but very good! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member I enjoyed it, not sure if the good time I had while watching it was due to the film or due to the admiration I have toward Kapuscinski's life and work. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Although character of Kapuscinski continues being controversial, the stories around its trips have something have fascinating we have to look at.
