Dutch V Wanted to like this movie since it was based on real events… Very poorly tied together… So many loose ends at the end… Storylines that weren't finished… Do not recommend watching this… Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/26/23 Full Review Michael V THE STRENGTH TO RESIST - THE COURAGE TO HOPE Another Mother's Son is a 2017 British war drama film directed by Christopher Menaul 🎥 Meh, it passed the time. Just. 😐 👍🏼👎🏼 S The true story of Louisa Gould, a widow living in Nazi occupied Jersey, who takes in a Russian prisoner of war. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/28/23 Full Review Audience Member The story line was betrayed by a very weak screenplay. There were so many obvious dumb things that the characters did that it became painful to watch to the end. When you are hiding a prisoner, you don't parade him around the town. Bill tries extra hard to look guilty, and every other "covert" action was seemingly done intentionally to attract attention. Sorry, but not worth the time. Unusual for the British. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Very moving and realistic show about impossible choices when peop ln e must live in fear of the unknown, are hungry and do not know who to call friend. We are all human and all have breaking points, some just have more ability to extend kindness and empathy beyond their fears and needs. Recommend highly but not a light level show. Very intense. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member This isn't a bad film but certainly as it reaches its conclusion you can't help feeling that the bigger and better story hasn't been told Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Could have had a better ending. Still felt like a TV movie rather than big movie screen. Surprised they were not caught out earlier as the channel islands are very close knit, especially then. David Stratton The Australian Though one or two of the details of what follows don't ring entirely true, Another Mother's Son, directed by Christopher Menaul, succeeds admirably in its depiction of life on Jersey under the Nazis. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 16, 2018 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian At first, there is a bit of a familiar taste to this true-life wartime tale. But it becomes something tougher. Rated: 3/5 Mar 24, 2017 Full Review Ed Potton Times (UK) Although the script tackles the dilemmas of resistance and collaboration, it never rises above the level of a television movie. Rated: 2/5 Mar 23, 2017 Full Review Alexa Dalby Dog and Wolf Jenny Seagrove's unglamorous, passionate performance creates a courageous, stubborn woman, brusque at times but full of love, and the centre of close family relationships. Rated: 3/5 Nov 19, 2018 Full Review Graeme Tuckett Stuff.co.nz ... a modest, timely and mostly admirable film that tells an astonishing story of heroism, as though that heroism was nothing special. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 11, 2017 Full Review Liam Maguren Flicks (AU, NZ, UK) The sets and costuming are era-appropriate, but director Christopher Menaul's no-frills approach usually boils down to 'point cameras at actors'.
