Olivia N Oct 3 *no spoilers* Some critics seem to not understand how violent slavery was, as is portrayed in the film. It's not a classic horror film in the way most people think of when they think "horror," I think thriller is a better category. The plot is wild and it makes you sit on the edge of your seat. I went into the film knowing about the plot twist and still really enjoyed it. No it's not a perfect plot, but neither are most movies' plots, and I didn't have a problem suspending my disbelief as necessary. I think the most angry critics just get a kick out of being far more harsh on this movie than I imagine they'd be towards most others. The ending is really satisfying, but one of the final shots of it brings home the point of the film really poignantly and depressingly. I think it would've been improved if it was a bit longer and spent a little more time fleshing out the system of the plantation and all the supporting cast, and a little less spent on the twist.
