Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review It proves how hard it is to make a remarkable film like Get Out or Us...this works on paper but doesn't earn its keep on screen. Apr 6, 2021 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) The visual style (lots of slow-mo) is sometimes overdone. But the ideas are alive, Monáe is a star and the drama is quietly unsettling. Rated: 4/5 Apr 2, 2021 Full Review Ben Travis Empire Magazine It's an audacious swing - but ultimately a miss from a pair of filmmakers who know exactly what they want to say, and haven't yet mastered how best to say it. Rated: 2/5 Apr 1, 2021 Full Review Manuel São Bento MSB Reviews Antebellum is set to divide viewers due to its uncomfortable yet realistic, extreme violence. Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz deliver an undeniably shocking film, involving hard-to-watch depictions of torture, slavery, and racism. Rated: B Jul 24, 2023 Full Review LaNeysha Campbell But Why Tho? A Geek Community Antebellum subverts the delusional and romanticized view of the American South while not abusing the slave narrative for shock value. Rated: 9/10 Jan 17, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies “Antebellum” deserves an audience, not just for being good genre entertainment (which it is), but also for the richness of its underlying message. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/23/25 Full Review KENDREA B Lol based on the reviews...I see who watched this movie and who didn't. Point of film completely missed by many..not surprised though. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/25 Full Review Jaclyn B Great movie! It kept me at the edge of my seat! From beginning to end it kept my attention & had me saying Veronica better get away at the end! Loved it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/13/24 Full Review Trevor T Bad costumes, bad acting, bad script. It was a struggle to get through this and it is a mistake I will not be making again. Very poor effort. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/11/24 Full Review Rick K Poorly directed and a story that rambles. We get it. The South sucks and racists live on. You need more than that to make a good movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/13/24 Full Review Read all reviews
