      Critics Consensus

Due to its use of cliched and ludicrous plot devices, this thriller is more predictable than suspenseful. Also, the acting is bad.

alan g Ryan phillipe as a computer hacker. Only if you suspend belief. Wooden acting. Posing and petulence. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/14/24 Full Review Test T I watched this for the first time on dvd, over 20 years after it was released. It get's poor reviews, but the story interested me. First off, nothing ages quicker than tech, so everything that was new and cool in 2001 is now either in landfill or a museum. That said, old tech was slow, and that gives the writers scope to create dramatic tension, while waiting for a cd to burn, or for a network connection to come up. The story is based around the good open source coders vs the evil corporate empires trying to profit from their work. Thing's get pretty ugly in this film, but the underlying struggle should ring true with anyone who ever worked in tech. I was a coder during the wild west days of IT, and the film just exaggerates how I remember it being. In summary, I found the film very watchable, and I think as a thriller it hits the mark. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/28/23 Full Review online s folks! how can download this movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/24/23 Full Review Kyle J The second half was excellent. I was on the verge of fast-forwarding. So glad I didn't. DONT READ TILL AFTER WATCHING: I would have given a higher rating if the makers had not insisted on salvaging a love interest. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review steve d Thrill-less thriller with a good cast. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member It's safe to say I'd never heard of Antitrust before I picked it up for free recently. When Milo graduates from college and lands his dream job writing software for a multi billion-dollar computer company (founded by an excellent Tim Robbins) it's safe to assume everything doesn't go swimmingly. Robbins' Gary is Milo's hero, and the cliché 'Never meet your heroes' is predictably where this plot line goes. It's a meat and potatoes cyber thriller, but it looks better now than it would have done on release. Certainly it appears to be somewhat ahead of its time; bringing in the very relevant issue of privacy and data collection would still have seemed alienating and preposterous to many of us twenty years ago. Director Peter Howitt followed this up with Johnny English (2003) a much-maligned Rowan Atkinson spy spoof that I have rather a soft spot for, but since then he's fallen into somewhat of a straight to Dvd bargain bin hole. Which is a shame, because although Antitrust is very much something you would now pick up in a clearance trolley at a petrol station, its themes are important and honest, and the acting is pretty decent. It's Friday night thriller fodder, but I enjoyed it more than I expected to. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
