Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times Antonia explores cultural and sexual oppression with sensitivity and verve. The story may lack complexity, but it is loaded with irrepressible energy and a deep appreciation of female friendship. And that's always something to sing about. Rated: 4.5/5 Sep 21, 2007 Full Review V.A. Musetto New York Post ...a raw reality underscored by believable performances by nonprofessional actors. Rated: 3/4 Sep 21, 2007 Full Review Elizabeth Weitzman New York Daily News ...the unpolished actors and raw So Paolo setting offer an unusually authentic feel. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 21, 2007 Full Review Ard Vijn ScreenAnarchy The story doesn't break new ground but it also avoids most cliches. Jan 24, 2020 Full Review Frank Lovece Film Journal International Each of the stars and most of the supporting players are real-life rappers/singers and not professional actors, adding to the improvisational-seeming naturalism that gives the movie an exotic insider feel. Sep 27, 2007 Full Review Jean Oppenheimer L.A. Weekly The music, rhythms and vibrant colors of the city are beautifully woven into cinematographer Jacob Sarmento Solitrenick's unobtrusive hand-held camerawork, while director/co-writer Tata Amaral reveals a deft hand with actors. Audience Member Rap Away The Tear...Cute Movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member I really enjoyed this one. Inspirational story with great music. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesante y bien hecha con pocos recursos. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Poor dialogues. The story it's ok but it could be better developed. The singers did a good job though. I just didnt like much the fact that almost all the scenes were too dark. It's was hard to see whats was actually happening and their reactions. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Great fun and uplifting movie that gives you a peak into the lives of the poor in Sao Paolo. The soundtrack has some pretty cool Brazilian rap. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Me encanto esta pelicula. Es ver toda la sociedad, desde la perspectiva del matriarcado. Muy interesante. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
