Yves R The kids and their cousins couldn't get enough of this one. And that's what matters, their reaction to it. I actually enjoyed it myself. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/23/23 Full Review Audience Member WARNING - this movie is twisted. I went into this blindly, stumbling across it on Amazon late one night. I thought it was a serviceable horror movie until the end. I looked for more information on what I just watched and it's supposed to be a Christian story of hope and forgiveness and family. And a 'family movie' at that. Briefly - a woman separates from her husband and commits the grave sin of wanting to be her own person instead of just being a doormat. Her 17 year old son - supposedly the hero of the piece - is aggressively abusive towards her every chance he gets, and spends a lot of time yelling and berating her. At some point, he meets a girl his age next door and they get to know each other. She opens up to him about the death of her best friend in a car crash, describing it in ghoulish detail - "Do you know what blonde hair looks like when it's on fire? Especially when it has a lot of hairspray in it." I say car crash because it wasn't an accident. The girl telling the story had given her bestie a bible tract (which turns out to be a cursed chain letter) and told her to read it within five days. The crash happens on the sixth day, because the writer's God is a vengeful and spiteful God. And of course, on seeing her best friend suffering a horrible fate, our heroine completely reasonably goes through her dead friend's purse to retrieve the magic paper. Said paper is now given to the boy with the promise that if he reads it, everything will be OK. Some other stuff happens, not much of which makes sense - add it to the pile of loose ends throughout the movie - and then the 'happy ending'. I was genuinely shaken and disturbed to learn what this was intended to be compared to what it actually is. Courage? Forgiveness?!?!? A teenager dies a fiery death for taking her sweet time reading a bible passage! Honestly, I wish I could take back the experience of watching this.
