Zane T @ZaneThind 5d While the original theatrical cut was nice This version is way better in my opinion. The direction seems more fluid and the remaster adds a great deal to the Cinematography. Perhaps the best psychological war film of all time. The acting in this explains the psychological toll of war really well. Great performances all around but the standout best are Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall, Marlon Brando, and Dennis Hopper. Sheen's gaze takes you on a whole different ride when watching this and as for Brando he steals the show when he appears on the screen. Duvall's firey character is an entertaining one and as for Hopper he is so enigmatic with his screen time. See more Dean S Dec 21 This film is a masterpiece! Not sure if the added scenes were needed and personally I prefer the original cinema cut! This movie represents well the harsh reality of war, with the redux version adding even more to the story. The colours and scenery in the movie is amazing, something that could never be replicated to this day. I think the addition of the French colonials is a great touch. It shows a failing empire not being able to let go, maybe a sign and warning to America. It has a great message, great acting and most importantly it's a great adventure. An adaptation of Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, it dissects the Vietnam War and war itself through a surrealistic cinematic journey up the river into Cambodia. We’re on a special mission to terminate, with extreme prejudice, the command of a once illustrious American officer whose gone native or gone crazy but in any case must be dealt with. Along the way we experience some of the greatest filmmaking ever as the crew of a little plastic boat encounter native people, scenes of battle, Playboy Bunny performances, and even a tiger. This version is Coppola’s second try with this material and it’s amazing. So much here to think about, incredible imagery, and profound filmmaking. See more Joe K Mar 14 More like apocalypse now!
