It's DP Matt Clegg who transforms Are We Not Cats into something so wonderfully weird on a visual level, that you can't help but become smitten by Eli and Anya's blossoming, albeit highly unconventional, relationship.

Solidly directed by Xander Robin, Are We Not Cats is sly and sunless...As a piece of storytelling, it's a miscarriage with several unexplainable gaps, but in a visceral level, it has its impactful moments.

Was really surprised at how much I liked this movie. It wasn't an amazing work of cinema or anything but the truth is that it is way better than most movies being made these days. Acting, storyline, filming, etc were solid. Reminded of me of the 90s era of indie films where they had something to say and when making a film meant more than just having a rich dad to pay for your $20,000 camera without any goal except to become famous. It's good. Interesting. Different. And like I said, right now that's enough for me to make me really enjoy it.

wtf. to be honest, the ending/main idea of the movie is really quite disturbing, but it takes SO long to get there. the vast majority of the movie from start to *almost* finish is really slow & really boring. i thought about shutting it off more than once, but because of the rather good reviews i figured it must be worth it. to be clear i don't think it's worth it. but the end is definitely what makes the movie appealing. or... unappealing, rather.
