TheMovieSearch R Are You There? is one of those 2025 horror films that looks promising at first glance, especially with a poster that suggests something eerie, polished, and atmospheric. The marketing gives the impression of a project with real potential, the kind of film that could deliver suspense, mystery, and psychological thrills. But once the movie starts, that promise evaporates almost immediately. What begins as intrigue quickly shifts into confusion, and the film never recovers from its own self-inflicted chaos. One of the biggest issues is the constant reliance on abrupt flashbacks. Instead of enhancing the story or building depth, these flashbacks are used so excessively and so randomly that they pull the viewer out of the experience every single time. It becomes difficult to follow the plot because the narrative keeps interrupting itself with moments that add nothing and only disrupt the pacing. Rather than creating mystery, the structure becomes a burden, and the film ultimately feels like a puzzle made of mismatched pieces. The casting and direction suffer from the same lack of cohesion. Nothing about the ensemble feels unified, and it’s clear there’s no chemistry connecting the actors to each other—or to the director’s vision. The cast feels lost inside the story, giving performances that don’t seem to belong in the same film. Meanwhile, the director appears unsure of how to guide the actors or shape the tone, resulting in scenes that clash tonally and visually. It feels like two entirely different creative teams were trying to make two entirely different movies. The screenplay only amplifies these issues. The writing lacks structure, clarity, and purpose, moving from scene to scene without emotional grounding or narrative momentum. The dialogue feels flat, the character motivations are unclear, and the overall storyline is hollow. Instead of building suspense, the script stumbles through half-formed ideas that never connect, leaving the film feeling incomplete and underdeveloped. Every time it seems like the story is about to take shape, it collapses back into confusion. Production elements don’t fare any better. The film is poorly directed, poorly produced, and visually inconsistent. Scenes lack flow, the editing is jarring, and the atmosphere never settles into anything resembling tension or horror. Even moments that should carry weight are undone by awkward handling and lack of cinematic identity. It’s the type of movie where every department seems out of sync, and the final product reflects that disarray. Overall, Are You There? stands out as one of the most disappointing horror releases of 2025—not because it aimed high and missed, but because it never found its footing in the first place. It’s a film that squanders its potential with bad writing, bad direction, and bad acting, leaving nothing worthwhile for viewers to hold onto. This is one horror movie you should absolutely skip. As Elsa said best: let it go. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/21/25 Full Review Ranger T Been scoping out indie horror films lately (because I'm tired of artless Hollywood films), and found this gem. Starts out intriguing, gets really scary for a bit (had to pause a couple of times and decide if I had the nerve to continue), then finishes up with an emotionally powerful ending. A nice surprise. Lead Actress (Laura Sollet) is stellar in her role, hope to see more of her! Best of luck to wherever fortune takes her. Definitely worth a watch! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/29/25 Full Review Rusty S Clearly low budget but entertaining enough. 90 mins so not long enough to overstay it's welcome Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/09/25 Full Review Aj R I'm not normally a fan of supernatural horror but I thought this film did an awesome job of making you care about the story and characters as much as the reason why you're here in the first place, a horror film. Kim and John's cinematography choices were great and I enjoyed the color grade and overall look and setting of the film. The story was compelling and had a great psychological aspect to it which I crave with any horror film. Making me care about what's happening to the characters is the cornerstone of any good film. Laura Sollet is an absolute star in the making and gave a raw, authentic, performance. You really do care for Rosa as a character and are along for a ride the entire time. Eva, Madison, Mbeng and the rest of the cast was very much on point. I highly recommend checking this film out. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/25 Full Review Read all reviews
