The relatively tense final half-hour is clearly the reason that very smart producer Jason Blum thought this would be a solid follow-up to "Paranormal Activity." It's that first hour that is the reason it took six years to (barely) get released.

Frankly maybe they should have kept the tapes a secret for the rest of eternity. The idea of Area 51 seems to be what's truly frightening about it, not what's actually going on inside.

During the first half I could tell it's a hands down waste of time watching this since it seemed like the unprofessional ambiance, the somewhat poor casting and the unnecessary dialogs in the scenes where too many to be following a great plot. However, I gave it a shot. Once the characters arrive in area 51 I had myself watching on edge. The "cheap filming" was the key to feeling like you were actually with them, therefore the unnerved and disturbing atmosphere could easily be imparted to the audience. Well, certainly, most horror film lovers wouldn't feel the tense to the same extent since neither atrocious scenes nor hideous creatures are displayed. Personally, I consider the film worth watching since it does differ a lot from most Sci-Fi movies and I am into such weird filming techniques. Is it a highly underrated masterpiece? Definitely not! I believe a higher budget would undoubtedly skyrocket the whole piece; yet, that's still missing so the potential cannot be counted into the overall rating as an asset.
