Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World franchise) is Elly Conway, the reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie. But when the plots of Elly's fictional books--which center on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate--begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past. Accompanied by Aidan (Oscar® winner Sam Rockwell), a cat-allergic spy, Elly (carrying Alfie in her backpack) races across the world to stay one step ahead of the killers as the line between Elly's fictional world and her real one begins to blur.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Argylle gets some mileage out of its silly, energetic spin on the spy thriller, but ultimately wears out its welcome with a convoluted plot and overlong runtime.

Audience Says

Argylle is an entertaining spy comedy with over-the-top action and plenty of surprises, although the fun starts to run out toward the end of its overlong runtime.

“Argylle” is fun in spurts with a strong cast of characters that help you get through the overly exaggerated runtime. But the script boxes itself into a corner too often and falls into repetition. Go to Full Review

Appreciating all these stars during a single visit to the movie theater is undoubtedly satisfying; but it was reasonable to expect much more from a $200 million mega-production that… is excessively conditioned by the use of CGI. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Argylle ultimately buckles under the weight of its own ambition, and the end result is a messy, overlong (if entertaining) romp. Go to Full Review

An awkward action-comedy, that fumbles both the action and the comedy. Go to Full Review

As “Argylle” twists and turns, it loses what little cleverness it had, warping itself into a bad version of the very thing it’s making fun of. Go to Full Review

Too flakey of a movie. See more G W Jan 8 Fun, fun, and fun! FUN! See more Marty H Dec 25 This movie had plenty of action and no lack of star Actors. In my opinion, this is too gory for under sixteen, but the plot is straight forward and easy to follow. See more Mike F Dec 23 Nowhere near director Matthew Vaughn’s best work. This is a far cry from the likes of Kingsman, Kick-Ass, or X-Men: First Class. This is an incredibly cheesy and overly outlandish spy thriller, that unlike the previously mentioned Kingsman, has nowhere near the same amount of fun or style. See more Read all reviews
