Once Arishadvarga hits its stride, it becomes enjoyable. The most striking performance comes from Nand Gopal as the dour policeman-on-the-job, busy unravelling the identity of the killer.

This kind of film is typically told in a more crowd-pleasing kind of big budget masala version, rather than a down and dirty straight noir, making Kamath's film a breath of fresh air.

You could claim that the film exists more on an existential plane. Balaji Manohar's cinematography is a standout. The delicate framing (clearly, the work of the director, too) almost makes a case that this is the only pacing that makes sense.

"Arishadvarga" has a lot of merits, particularly for the overall film noir atmosphere and the acting, but the overly complex script and the directorial/editing approach make the narrative difficult to follow, at least for the whole of its duration
