Critics Consensus

Though The Aristocats is a mostly middling effort for Disney, it is redeemed by terrific work from its voice cast and some jazzy tunes.

Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times The Aristocats is in there with the good ones. It is light and pleasant and funny, the characterization is strong, and the voices of Phil Harris and Eva Gabor are charming in their absolute rightness. Rated: 3/4 Jul 9, 2018 Full Review Stefan Kanfer TIME Magazine The animals' exuberance is so infectious and their "acting" so true to human life that by the fadeout The Aristocats does, indeed, give the audience paws for reflection. Nov 4, 2009 Full Review Dave Kehr Chicago Reader This 1970 animated feature is dull, careless, and all too typical of the Disney studio's slapdash output before the unexpected renaissance of The Rescuers. Nov 4, 2009 Full Review Carson Timar ButteredPopcorn While the animation is cute and the film creates an incredibly likable main cast of characters each with their own unique personality and presence, the narrative is incredibly basic and lacks any deeper dimension when it comes to purpose or poignance. Aug 15, 2023 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins The animation is masterful and the overall design is appealing. Rated: 5/10 Aug 27, 2020 Full Review Rachel Wagner rachelsreviews.net I kind of feel the same way about the Aristocats as I felt about Fun, Fancy and Free. Both felt very lazy and derivative of better films. Rated: D- May 8, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Dionisis T Used to like it but now it feels too old for me... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/28/24 Full Review Raffaele E The people on this platform are all brainrot Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/20/24 Full Review Jace E This film is often forgotten in my mind when I think of classic Disney animated films. There are some solid moments, but as a whole the movie is just forgettable. Note: The movie needed more George! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/17/24 Full Review Audience Member My favourite childhood movie. Also it has cats, which makes it 5 stars. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/01/24 Full Review Dale R Similar love story to Lady and the Tramp, as in two lovers from opposite sides of the economic spectrum, but with cats. This time they have to get home while dealing with an evil butler. Like The Jungle Book, what stands out here is a few of the songs. “Thomas O’Malley Cat” and “Ev’rybody Wants to Be a Cat” are my highlights. Edgar, the villain, is forgettable, one of my least favorites in Disney animated canon. I very much dislike the kittens. I feel that their only purpose is to be cute and feel sorry for them. This seems to start a trend for child characters in Disney movies. This movie also seems to be targeted to a younger demographic then most of the previous Disney animated movies. Check it out if you’re interested. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Ryland C May seem cute on paper, but man this movie just ain’t for me. It kinda boring. Nothing really caught my interest and there just so many annoying side characters and scenes that just added nothing. The cats are kinda boring and the song “every body wants to be a cat” is just so annoying. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/26/24 Full Review Read all reviews
