Dave S Despite some crisp, colorful cinematography and a handful of semi-recognizable actors from the era (Lloyd Bridges, David McCallum, and Bond Girl Shirley Eaton), Around the World Under the Sea quickly sinks under the weight of its own dopiness. Five scientists, none of whom seem all that bright, embark on a mission to circumnavigate the globe in a submarine in an effort to install devices on the seabed that will warn of impending earthquakes. There is plenty of shaky science, much of which leads to more than a handful of ridiculously improbable scenarios to be dealt with by the intrepid crew, all of which is foreshadowed by the ridiculous and logic-defying rescue-at-sea in the opening scene. It's all incredibly stupid and surprisingly boring. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/09/23 Full Review erroll f i started watching this dud because i enjoy scuba diving. Then there is Loyd Bridges, the sea hunt hero plus the beautiful Easton girl. But they can't save this snoozer. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/07/23 Full Review Norman W I remember watching this movie when it first came out in 1966, yes it is dated and doesn't have fantastic effects but overall it is a good story and Shirley Eaton is always lovely to look at. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/29/22 Full Review Audience Member Jules Verne style adventure, although the screenwriters for this one are leagues away from the his ability to create an engaging fantasy. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Sorry to be the odd man out, but I enjoyed it. The story was plausible as sci fis go, acting was generally good, dialogue largely believable, and while there were portions that were a little slow moving, the people and some of the situations they found themselves in had a real-life feel to them. Bosley Crowther New York Times A deplorable lack of imagination is apparent in Around the World Under the Sea. Sep 20, 2023 Full Review Pauline Kael McCall's Around the World Under the Sea is competently made and intermittently entertaining; but it assumes we go to the movies for just a bigger screen, brighter-colored version of what is available on television series shows.
